AGreaterFreedom.com invites you to participate in our first 21-Day Salute to Honor America!

In 1975, Congress declared that the period between June 14 (Flag Day) and July 4 (Independence Day) would be recognized as Honor America Days, a time for Americans to publicly celebrate America and the great ideals our country stands for.

We want to do our part in honoring America by inviting you to tell us, in 350 words or less, who you think is a Great American – someone you know who is going beyond the norm to make a difference in the life of their country and their fellow Americans.

We’ve received some great letters so far in our “21-Day Salute” and we’d like to share one with you now:

Our son, Michael, is currently in the Army, serving his country in South Korea. He has been in the Army since September of 2005. He is helping to keep America free by defending us in what ever capacity is necessary at this time. He wants to serve God and country.

People tell me, “well, at least he isn’t in Iraq”, but, even if he were, he would still do whatever he needed to do to serve his country. I am so proud of my son. It’s not easy for me. This is the second person in my life to be in Korea. You see, he is following in his dad’s footsteps. My husband was in Korea in 1984-1985. Mike was just a little boy at that time, and has always said he wanted to be just like his daddy when he grew up. Well, that has come to pass and so, these past months have been both joyous and sad.

Being separated from somebody you love so much isn’t easy. But, knowing what they are doing will make a difference helps a lot. I just hope he knows how proud our whole family is (including his 2 sisters, and 1 brother)to know that he is sacrificing part of his “youthful” years to help keep this wonderful country free. No, freedom isn’t free, but we are still living in a free country and until Mike breathes his last breath, he will help defend it.
