I've heard that there has been some confusion on the ban on the use of cell phones while driving on military bases. I've had the opportunity to read the actual instruction on this issue, and I want to clarify it for all of us.
The ban is for all cell phone use while driving, except for hands-free devices. Some newer cell phone devices use a new technology sometimes referred to as "bluetooth," which is advertised as "hands-free." This new ban prohibits the use of any in-ear device while driving, so the "hands-free" ban also means "earpiece-free."
This instruction also reminds drivers that all in-ear devices are banned while driving as well, included iPod earphones.
From Trish: Sheri is this for ALL military bases or just Navy installations?
This ban is for all military bases. You may have noticed the signs going up on base about the cell phone ban. I've seen these both on the Navy base and the Air Force base. I haven't been to the Army base recently.
