The Simple Women's Daybook: Week 2

For Today... August 20, 2008.

Outside my Window...the leaves are softly flittering in the wind as the shining sun embraces the earth with warmth.

I am thinking...that I need to work on my report for a class in school.

I am thankful for...the abundant supply of grapes that we received from our grapevine this year.

From the kitchen...Mother is making grape juice.

I am wearing...a white, pink, and black shirt; jeans; and my hair is up in a clip.

I am reading...all of my schoolbooks that I don't always find very interesting. :)

I am hoping...that I will have time to go to Wal*Mart tonight.

I am hearing...the water running from outside as my brother fills Ezekiel's bowl with a cool, fresh drink.

I am creating...a blog entry. :)

Around the house...family members are rushing around doing different tasks for the day.

One of my favorite things...jumping in the swimming pool after a very hot day.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...read my book report book, work on my sign language, and probably tons of other stuff that I can't think of right now.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

And...that was the second part of my 2 in 1 post!!

                   Blessings!

Simple Women's Daybook, Week 1

Posted in August 2008

Ahhh...yes, I have not blogged in a while. Why? School has started back, and I am in a whirlwind of completing things. Busy, busy!! :)

On Jocelyn's blog I found out about a wonderful little activity to do...here is what she says on how to participate...

"To participate in the meme is simple. All you do is answer the bolded questions with your own answers and then link yourself at the Simple Woman’s blog each week. You’re always welcome to check out the other ladies’ Daybooks who participated. This is a very sweet homekeeping meme that I’d encourage you to do as well."

So here goes!!

For Today... August 12, 2008

Outside my window...the cool night air is filled with the melody of the cicada's song.

I am thinking...of how I wish the cat could come inside, but he can't because of his fleas. Poor guy. :(

I am thankful...for such hard-working and loving parents who do all in their power to guide and protect us.

From the kitchen...comes no sound, for the family is elsewhere.

I am wearing...my pajamas.

I am reading...for my report in school...Why I Left the Contemporary Christian Movement by Dan Lucarini.

I am hoping...that I will be able to finish learning before Septemper, the signs to the song "Watch the Lamb."

I am hearing...the people cheering on TV for the Olympic Beach Volleyball.

Around the house...are several things that need to be done. :)

One of my favorite things...is sitting in the "snuggy swing" (a swing that my grandfather made with two sides facing eachother...I can't think of what it's called because we always have called it the "snuggy swing") with my grandparents and parents enjoying the beauty of God's creation.

A few plans for the rest of the week...are doing school, reading my Bright Light Bible Study lesson, practicing some sign language, practicing my piano lessons, etc.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

                          Blessings to your day!!

What COULD go wrong...

...when making scones??

Here's our hilarious nightmare of making scones...

Katie and I were spending the night together and finally decided that we would attempt to make scones. So, that's not too hard, right?? Right?? Uh, huh. This was my first time and her second time, only she hadn't done it in forever. So, two amateurs in the kitchen...not to say we don't cook, but we were having such a great time, our minds were not on what we were doing. Now, I suggest that the most important and first thing you should do in cooking is....to read the directions. Well...we read them....sorta'. We read them..kinda'. When it came time to put in the baking soda, I carefully made sure I was putting in the baking soda. 2 and 1-half teaspoons to be exact. Actually, what I didn't know was that it called for 2 and 1-half teaspoons of baking powder. So, oblivious to that fact, I meticulously poured in what is a common mistake.

"Katie!!?? Umm...I have to tell you something," I half-laughingly stammered.

"Yes, dear?" she joyously stated.

"Well, I just put in 2 and 1-half teaspoons of baking soda, and..well..it was supposed to be baking powder. Yes, big mistake. Katie, I am soooo sorry!!"

"Uh, oh," she chuckled.

"Umm...Katie? What are we going to do. Your Mom is out walking, so we can't ask her."

"Hmmm..."

"Should we try to get it out or start over and waste all of this flour and sugar, which I do not think is a good idea," I worryingly asked.

"Yes, I think you're right," she laughed. "Let's try to get it out."

So, we got out a teaspoon, and then began to attempt to take out the excess baking soda!! However, there was a slight problem. Baking soda and flour look the same. O.k. So now we have to go by taste, and good ole' Missie takes a rather large taste and amazingly finds out that it's baking soda. They laughed about it after she had gulped down a glass of water. After painstakingly trying to take out as much baking soda as possible, we moved on to the next steps.

We soon came to the butter. It called for 1 and 1-half cups of butter, I think, and the sticks of butter were all cut into halves. So, we had about 6 halves of butter sticks to thinly slice. Being the geniuses that we were, we took out a dinner knife, cut the already half pieces of butter into 4 sections, and then cut small, thin squares. All this time, the butter slicer, thing-a-mi-jig was right in front of our nose...or eyes. Slaving over the tedious job of the butter, we finally rejoiced that it was all sliced and began to mix the countless ingredients together. After finding that it was beginning to do what it was "supposed to do," we discovered to our deep dismay that...we had forgotten one of the halves of butter.

                                                         Not good.

Why was it not good?? Because we had already put the buttermilk in, it wasn't going to work well to have to mix in that last piece of butter. Well, we went ahead and did it. Oh, and I almost forgot. We had finally, FINALLY finished grating the top of the lemon peel to get lemon zest, and decided to mix it in with the mixture. No. You're supposed to toss it in at the end. O.k. So, we try to pick out all of the lemon zest. Oh, well. At last!! It was time to kneed the dough. Well, the dough turned out to be too, well, non-thick. Time to "pour" on the flour.

Then, the time had come. Pat the dough into somewhat of a ball and drop it onto the greased pan. Stick it in the oven. Let it bake. Wait a second. It's baking. O.k. So what now? Well, WE HAVE TO CLEAN UP THE MESS!!

Wash. Scrub. Rinse. Put in dish drainer. or dishwasher.

Wash. Scrub. Rinse. Put in dish drainer. or dishwasher.

Wash. Scrub. Rinse. Put in dish drainer. or dishwasher.

We're done cleaning and the kitchen sparkles. And then, do not ask me the reason and what was said to cause this because I do not remember....we started cracking up. We laughed. And we laughed some more. And guess what??! We laughed some more!! We laughed so hard that my sides were hurting, but I couldn't stop. Katie fell on the floor, and just died (not really) of laughter. I walked in circles dying of laughter, then got dizzy and bumped into the counter. By the time her parents came in the door 5 min. later, we were still cracking up.

I can barely put into words the hilarious event. Oh, and by the way, were you wondering how long it took us to make our scones?? What we thought would be 30 minutes turned into...... 2 hours. lol No, I am not the terrible cook you now think I am.

Oh, and were you also wondering how the scones turned out?? What was supposed to be 10-15 min. of baking was a whole lot longer. Maybe it was because Katie decided to put it on as a whole and then cut it when it was done baking. Overall, how did it turn out, especially with Missie's baking powder/baking soda mix up??

Actually, purty good, if'n ya asks me.

.

So, there's our little cooking adventure.

"A joyful heart is good medicine......" Proverbs 17:22

                         Still laughin' and lovin' it,

                               ~Missie~

Challenge

Hey Everyone!

Miss Elizabeth is celebrating her one year anniversary of blogging, and for this special occasion she is hosting a challenge on her blog. What's it about?? Well, here are the three questions she wants us to answer:

  1. Why did you start a blog on homeschool blogger?
  2. Why did you want a blog?
  3. What are your goals to achieve with your blog?

In however many words we want to, whether a paragraph or more, we are to answer these questions. Once you do this challenge, she would like each who does it to sign the Mr. Linky on her blog and leave a comment also. And, she has this nifty little icon for you to add to your sidebar.

                                    http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/uploads/e/Ebell1993/67666.png

Anyways, here goes...

Why did I start a blog on homeschool blogger? Well, one of my friends was talking about how she had started one and said how much fun it was; then, I told Mom and Dad that I really wanted to get a blog. Actually, I didn't really know that much about what one was, and before then, I hadn't thought much about it. So, they then gave me the permission to start one. I think that answer also sorta answered Question #2: Why did I want a blog? 'Cause my friend was extremely excited about her's. Thirdly, What are my goals to achieve with my blog? "...and my hope is that you will enjoy your visit and be encouraged in your walk with the Lord!!" That was from my "About Me" section of my blog, and it pretty much sums up what I want to be achieved in my blogging. I want my blog to be an encouragement to all those who read it, and for it to be an example of what I believe. You can laugh with me, pray with or for me, see all of the ways that the Lord is working in my life, and etc. The friends I have made in blogging have been a great blessing to me, and their writings can be so encouraging. In each of my entries, I desire that each one who reads it and other things on my blog, will leave blessed and encouraged in their faith. Lastly, I want to again share with you a verse that fully reinforces all that I have just written:

"Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe."

                  1 Timothy 4:12

Well.........there ya have it! :) So, now it's your turn!! Let everybody know why you blog, etc. And, HAVE FUN!!

                   Poll Results

O.k. I started my last poll on May 11th. Here are the results for "Do you usually eat your dessert..."

  1. before your meal  0 votes
  2. with your meal  0 votes
  3. after your meal  12 votes
  4. Dessert?? I don't even like dessert!!  0 votes

Well, the next poll is..."Which would you rather have as your dessert?" There ya have it!! Go and vote!!

                                           Love in our Lord,

                                                     ~Missie~

Mr. Scary Man...

Posted in May 2008

Hi Everyone!

Thank you to each of those who have been praying for our family and praying for the wisdom that is needed in all of the business situations, buying car, etc., that is going on right now. We are still in the process of getting things straightened out and looking for a new van. But no matter how hectic and stressing alll this can be, we continuously remind ourselves that our lives were spared and give thanks to our Almighty Protector.

Anyways, on to the fun, funny, funnier, and funniest stuff. This might sound a little crazy, but I decided to give my cat a little lick of peanut butter (it is too long of a story to tell about where I got the idea :). Needless to say, he licked his lips for quite a while... Here, ladies and gentlemen, is the picture I took...

No, my cat is not evil...he...just...looks it. LOL :) Anyways, there's your laugh for the day!!

Blessings to all and many thanks for the prayers...keep prayin'! :)

I am praising the name of Jesus!

Posted in May 2008

Well, I pretty much wrote this entry last Wednesday, which was the 21st, but I am only now getting around to posting it. May this entry bless and encourage all who read it. Each one of you remember, that no matter what, God answers prayer and always hear us. I believe that it was no coincidence when the Sunday school lesson I taught yesterday to the preschool class was about prayer...we were to encourage the students that God always hears us no matter the place or circumstance.

And I Am Convinced Of That.

Without going into precise detail, here is the story:

(note: yesterday is of now *last Tuesday*)

Some of you may or may not know that my mom, two siblings, and I were in a car accident yesterday afternoon.  Yesterday afternoon...my life could have drastically changed forever.  My life did change forever.  No, not a physical or earthly change, but a change in which I will ever have a deep trust in my Almighty God...

Mom, bro, sis, and I were on our way to a book sale in which we were selling and shopping for books and other such material. It was a normal day to me...as usual, I asked Mom if my makeup looked o.k., fiddled with my hair, and then rushed out the door worrying that we would be late.  On the way there, we had to suddenly stop because of the person in front of us, who came to a stop to turn quite fast. Mom, apologizing to us for having to stop so quickly, sat in the driver's seat; I in the passenger seat next to her in the front; and bro and sis in the two middle seats of the van.  All of a sudden, the car shook like none else I had ever felt in my life.  Before I even realized it, Mom had pulled off to the side of the road, beacuse of the fact that we were sitting in the middle of an intersection or something like that.  We all started crying. In the midst of it all, Mom hurriedly checked to see if everyone was o.k.  Brother's eye was cut, but nothing threatening came to our attention.  A man came up to us to see if all were o.k. We told him yes.  Mom, in a daze, called Dad at work and told him that we had been in an accident, and that someone had rammed into us from behind.  Reasurring him that no one was seriously injured, she hung up, and we waited for the police to come. (someone else had called 9-1-1)

When the police arrived, we were asked dozens of questions to which we answered to the best of our ability. "What is your name?" "What is your sister's name?" "Do you know the date of her birthday?" We were asked if we hurt at all.  Mom and I were complaining of a achy back and neck. Lil' sis was fine.  She later told me she was too scared to cry.  Brother's eye was slit, but nothing too serious.  Daddy finally arrived not long after the ambulance came.  Mom and I were put on stretchers with neck braces and were taken in an ambulance to the hospital with Dad and the kids following behind.  We got to the hospital and lay on our bed thingys in the hall for a long time. How uncomfortable, but nothing compared to some of the other more tragic things that happen to others.  To our utter joy and delight, our ever-faithful pastor came and stayed at the hospital the WHOLE time we were there.  Encouraging us in the Lord's faithfulness and unchanging promises, he prayed with us and kept our spirits up.  Well, after several hours, we were checked out, and they concluded that I had some neck strain and might be stiff in the morning, and Mom's back pain was aggravated.

We WALKED out of the Emergency Room.

We walked out.  Oh, the many people who enter those doors, to either come back out physically changed forever, or maybe, never did walk out.  The Lord is so merciful!! Praise His holy name!!

Looking at the damage on our car, the Lord's hand of protection is clearly seen.  In our Honda van, the back seat is made to fold-up and down into the floor.  Never do we fold that down except when transporting bulky things.  There is always someone sitting back there; but, on that day, we had it folded down with all of our books and curriculum.  We were hit from the back.  The car crunched in right where that back seat was, and right where one of us is usually sitting.  If one of us had been back there, we could have been killed or seriously injured.  This auto accident could have happened anytime, but our Lord was so merciful...so merciful!!! He allowed this accident to occur on one of the very few days that we drive with the back seat folded down.

The Lord kept His hand on us the WHOLE entire time.  We sang hymns, and remembered Bible verses with His promises to us.  I recited over and over, even when I was in bed that night, Psalm 23.  I also remembered Isaiah 41:10:

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

The entire back windshield and two back windows were completely shattered, and not one piece of glass, that we were aware of, harmed or even touched us. (We aren't sure what Bro cut his eye on.)  Compared to what could have happened, death or serious injury, we are alive, unharmed, and have been made even more ever-grateful to our God.

The person who hit us is a 19-year-old boy.  Mom is really wanting to meet him, because she wants the chance to tell him about the Lord.  We know that God has a plan in all of this, whether it is to teach us valued lessons or bring someone to believe and trust in Him.

Thank you to those who have been praying for us.  Please also pray that we won't recall any of this, and that we will take our thoughts captive to the Lord.  I just noticed how perfect the title of my blog goes with this experience...

"There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven..."

Each time I get into the car, I automatically brace myself because of what happened.  My nerves are so edgy, and there are times when a simple noise even when I'm not in the car, makes me jump.  Please pray that none of us will fear...that we will put our trust in the Almighty; the One who is in control of all things. Also,  the car was totaled...so please pray that the Lord would give us wisdom in buying a new one...

The Lord is so good!! To Him be the honor and glory forever!!

"You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal."

                   Psalm 26:3-4

"But Thou, O Lord, art shield to me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head."

                   Psalm 3:3

                       Love in our Lord,

                               ~Missie~

A Few Random Thoughts for the Day...

Posted in May 2008

Well........I decided to share a couple random moments of yesterday. First, let me give you a little history of bits and pieces of the last couple days. Our house has become, from my point of view, "Birdie Kingdom." Let me tell you why....it all started when my friend and I were playing around outside, and we happened to notice a bird across the street.  A non-moving bird.  So, we decided to check it out. There was a dead and very pitiful bird (I won't go into details) and beside it sat a small baby bird, which I think was a robin. Taking pity for this helpless creature and not wanting it to be unmercilessly killed by our bird-seeking cat, we carefully moved it to a cozy, cardbord box since the nest was no where in sight. Well, after coming to probably near death with the cat, Mr. Birdie, who was named Chelsea by sis :), was finally taken to a Wildlife Center by my friend's brother. Whew! We got that all taken care of.

                                                       Not quite.

Nope, not quite. Another birdie arrived at our birdie haven; however, much to the dismay of all, this baby bird did not quite make it. It died in sis's lap. Lil' sis sympathetically dug a grave for it....you may think, "Well, that's hopefully the end of that." No again. :) Since Tuesday, I think, we have had Mr. Ferocious (that's probably because he's scared to death) living in his box in the garage, and he sent us on a little adventure last night. We came home late from my grandparent's house and remembered that we had left the baby bird in his box in the garage, but after I had remembered our earlier escapade that morning chasing him all over the den, I feared that he may have hopped out. So, we ran into the garage, looked in the box, and....................he wasn't there. Oh, no!! Scrambling frantically around the garage, we searched and searched for the little troublemaker. All of a sudden, sis screamed something like, "Oh, my goodness! That scared me so bad!" I was like, "What? What did?" We then both turned to face my brother's bike, and perching so innocently on the tire of the wheel was Mr. Ferocious himself. And, to this day, he is still being fed worms by mostly lil' sis with some help from bro. Now, to complete this story of "The Three Birds," I happened to have a picture of Mr. Ferocious posing quite nicely for me on the tire............

And...here is the guilty kitty....

Anyways, those were my random thoughts. :)  Hope everyone's having a GREAT day!!
