As I mentioned in my Home Binder... I have tweaked my "binder" system to work for me. I don't like to have a WHOLE bunch of info in one spot...it gets too overwhelming so I really work out of 3 binders. 1- Home Biner 2- Homesteading Binder - gardening, animal issues 3- Health Binder- this is my newest binder...dealing with all things health related...(will add lots of my Mommy Diagnostic forms in here...0 I thought I'd share a bit of my homesteading binder. First I must share wonderful new site I just found, New Harvest Homestead ......I received the first FREE issue and it looks very nice...I am very excited to subscribe and receive future issues! I just love the term homesteading...and I must admit I am most content and happy when I really focus on this area of our lives. Being home, taking care of the home, not looking OUT at the world, but looking In and being content. So here is my Homestead 'shelf' aka window... Here you will find on the far left my Homestead binder, then a Tractor Supply catalog, then a Melaleuca catalog (I do not currently belong to this...but I love their products, and hope to be on board at some point), Next is my Storey's Guide to Raising Dairy Goats, Then squeezed in there are a few goat supply catalogs, then my Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens, a few chicken supply catalogs and another Chicken book BY Weaver, and lastly is a photo alblum. This lifestyle and house was such a culture shock to us...that we have tried to follow our journey in pictures. Next to that pile is my Health Binder "pile".... another entry, later. So here is my binder, I need a better one... I need a hard one, this one is a soft clear cover, but at the time I just needed a binder to hold my papers. Oh shucks... For some reason I don't have the link at the bottom of this first article. (one of my favorites) it is titled "Five Homesteading Tools Money Can't Buy". They are (1) a spirit of contentment, (2) a resouceful attitude, (3) an averson to debt, (4) being a good neighbor and (5) learning to laugh.
Next is a list hubby wrote on how our garden went last year. I must admit I am the main reason it wasn't a RAVE success. I wasn't into gardening and really encouraged hubby NOT to go overboard because I had a feeling come Sept (baby was due) I wan't going want to spend much time in the kitchen putting it all up (in an UN A/C kitchen at that). So hopefully this year will be MUCH better!!
Then I have a neat article I tore out of the FREE Tractor Supply Magazine called "Country Conditioning- Get Your Kids Healthy With Farm Chores"
Next is one of my favorite blog articles... it was on the Godfrey Homestead blog...it was written by Jennifer Adkins. I cannot find a link to this any longer, so I am so glad I printed it out! It is titled "Moms in Pionner Day sMay Have Had It Better" It is great!!
Next I have the Goat health records I just made up on the computer for each goat.
Then I have some notes on Goat Health that I wrote down from the lady who sold us our goats...vet information.
And next is the info from the lady who sold us the goats..she has a business dealing with goats.
Then I have a few articles from FiasCo Farm.com dealing with Goats
Then I have a list of Yearly Produce and when it is "in season" for Jan-Dec.
Next is a sheet of pick your own farms in my area.
Next are some Harvest and other Garden reports that I put together each year. we have brief records of what worked, what didn't, brands etc.. from year 2000-present.
Then I found this REALLY tattered homestead book that really wasn't work keeping and I kept a few pages that were at the end that gave a brief listing of some tips for certain garden produce: Suceh as Broccoli Planting tips, cultivation tips, harvesting tips, enemies, varieties and suggestions.
Then I have a few sheets on Food Preservation from the Penn State Argriculturial Sceince Cooperative Exentsion. I think I picked these up at the farm show YEARS ago...
(oopps no pic of this)
Then I have a copy of a sample food storage report...I found this here at Provident Living- Food Storage Calculator (oh I just saw who this site belongs too... I do NOT recommend this site).
I also have a yearly food list--- I don't remember where I got this either...but its nice, overwhelming, but a nice list!!
Next is an article from my No Greater Joy Magazine- Corny Ten Different Ways
Lastly I have a few barn designs...for future reference.
