• Monday, March 12, 2007 - Asking for help.

Posted in homelife

Last year we went to the Washington Oregon coast. We had a great time. On the last leg of our journey home our flight was overbooked. We volunteered to stay off for the next flight. In exchange the airlines paid for our hotel, fed us, and here is the best part…… gave us round trip tickets!! That is 6 tickets. We get to go on another trip!

Last time I was planning our trip I posted about it, and got some great suggestions.  So I am asking for help once again. Our destination this time is EAST. How is that for vague?

We were thinking about going to Philidelphia. See historical sights, the Liberty Bell, surely there is a Benjamin Franklin Museum right?  Maybe Niagra Falls?  We were also considering Colonial Williamsburg, but are wondering just how many people will be there.

The boys would LOVE to see a Civil War Reenactment. I’ve been to some websites. Anyone have suggestions there? We are not really into crowds of people so even if it is a smaller one that is ok. What I would really like to find is one where we can actually participate, dress up, do stuff as well as watch stuff. I saw on tv a camp where you actually get to camp and eat around a campfire with the reenactors. But I can’t seem to find any information about this online. Revolutionary times would be great too.

Any great science activities in this area?

How about hotels. Any family friendly types? In other words, clean but cheap! LOL

Pass this request on to anyone who might have suggestions for me. Pretty please!  I'd sure appreciate it.

Have you all been to Washington DC? It is the most educational trip we have ever been on. I think every American should go at least once. We are planning another trip in the future to see some of what we missed - and to further explore some of our favorites. One thing though - if you want to go to the White House you will need to go through your local senator's office. They have to make the arrangements for you.

Philly is also a fabulous option. we haven't been there yet. But it's definitely on our "trip wish list". :-D

I lived on the east coast as a tot and have fond though vague memories of the area. And this summer I am moving to Philadelphia so we've been looking into things to do in that area. Valley Forge, Gettysburg... lots to see. WA DC would be great as well. For Civil War, the Atlanta area would be fantastic. We went to Kennesaw 2 years ago and loved it. Lots of interesting places to see there.

We had looked into Williamsburg this year due to a family reunion there, but decided against it - with the 400 year anniversary it looks to be very, very crowded. But perhaps that was just the time (May) we were going to be there. But that is a wonderful place to visit.

Niagara Falls - I lived in Buffalo so going to the falls was a common occurence. I can't wait to get back to the east coast to take my kids there. If you go - take the Maid of the Mist boat ride.

Wow, I envy you your "free" trip!

We went to Niagara Falls last year and it was awesome. We had planned to be in the area anyway for a conference and were able to include a trip up there. However, there didn't seem to be a lot more to see in the area so I don't know that you would want to do your whole trip there especially if you want the history type vacation - I would definitely do more of the east coast or Washington DC. Also, if you don't like crowds the Falls are not for you!

Try the above link for info on a Civil War encampment and reenactment. This might be an option for your boys. Kentucky is a state rich in educational trips. Here is another link: http://www.civil-war-museum.org/events.html
Try doing a search on KY and educational trips. There are way too many for me to list!

Just wanted to let you know - thanks for recommending "Feminine Appeal". I just read it and thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband has been out of town. I'm hoping he doesn't recognize what he comes home to! :-) A lot of stuff I needed to hear right now and be reminded of. Thanks!

you got SIX free tickets? WHAT! That is fantastic.

I'm no help with the questions you were asking, just wanted to utter my amazement with your deal. :)

I loved our trip to D.C. when I was in sixth grade. There is so much to see and so little time. We also went to Williamsburg. Highly recommend it. We also spent a day in Virginia and just went to the beach and went swimming.

Congratulations on being selected as blogger of the week!

We loved Colonial Williamsburg! Jamestown, Yorktown, Monticello, Mount Vernon, Kitty Hawk, oh, there are just so many places to see on the East Coast! Just depends on what you want your focus to be.

The thoughts and reflections of a mom who loves being at home, and is doing all she has ever desired in her life..... Really... I love my life that much!

"And all thy sons shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy sons.
In righteousness shall thou be established."
