• Thursday, March 9, 2006 - Story by 10 yr old son

Posted in Home Education

Good morning.  Yes it is morning and no I have not walked but it is cold, snowy (that's Colorado weather for ya, one day it is spring and the next it snows) and I am sick.  So I am having a day off.  The 9 and 10 yr old are having a Cash Flow marathon and the 15yo is off for the day skiing (lucky guy) and the youngest who is also sick is occupied right now in the bathtub.

I thought I'd share a portion of a story that my 10 yo is writing.  I copied and pasted this just as he wrote it so it is not edited.  I was pretty pleased with what he wrote so far.  This is just the first paragraph the story goes on for several pages.

It is amazing how different kids can be in the same family.  You will notice many errors in my sons story.  But he writes!!!  He uses wonderful descriptive words and he gets very excited about his writing, coming and telling me all about the characters.  All this is on his own.  This was NOT an assignment.

My other son is much better about errors (struggles with spelling) BUT I get short sentences.  As little as he can get by with.  And NEVER his own idea. God has gifted these children differently and my job is to bring out the best and encourage thier strengths while getting the basics done in thier weaker areas.

Now I am babbling and so without further ado- here is the intro to......

TWO COMON BOYS

…….1

A long time ago in a peacful vally, in the spring, running across a meadow were two boys the oldest one Jacob ten years old and the yongest one Jimmy seven. Now Jacob the oldest one loved sports espeshally swimming and his golden brown hair whissped across his face covering his bright blue eyes. But Jimmy liked animals.( snakes, bugs and spiders were his favorite)but he liked every animal just the same.He also new every animal track as well as he knew his name and almost like his brother he had dark blond hair which stobernlly fell across his face barelly showing his bright blue eyes.

WOW! I am amazed at his descriptive abilities. I really got a picture of the two boys in my mind. The spelling can be zapped with a spell checker, but good ideas!!?? ya just have to have 'em in your head! He's sure got those.

"And all thy sons shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy sons.
In righteousness shall thou be established."
