Yesterday afternoon my second eldest daughter came up to me, telling me that she had a 'crack' in her tooth. Thinking that she was just feeling the natural grooves in the top of her tooth, I halfheartedly felt her tooth with my fingertip. However, upon doing so, I too felt the 'crack' she was talking about. It was right in the center. I wiggled her tooth some to feel if it was loose, but it was only slightly loose...not ready to pull for a while..or so I thought. I gently wiggled it one more time to make sure. Oops...her tooth broke into two and pulled completely from her gums on one side. I guess I was wrong and it was coming out anyhow. So, I went to pull the one half off and it broke again. I was able to get both pieces out though, along with the last and third piece. However, a piece of her gums was hanging loose from where the tooth was at on the edge. Not good. The only good news was that there was another tooth already rupturing underneath. I called our dentist's office only to get a message saying that they were closed! On a Friday? Figures. So, I called another dentist. They said they'd be able to work her in to check the piece of her gums that looked 'wierd'. When we arrived at the dentist's office, I was given a clipboard of paperwork to fill out since we'd never been at this particular office before. Meanwhile, my daughter enjoyed watching 'Happy Feet' on a flatscreen tv hooked from the ceiling. They finally called her back and she had xrays done and a cleaning. When the dentist came over, he said that the piece of her gums that was torn...or appeared to be, was just excess swelling from her tooth coming out and would return to normal on its own..which it has as of this morning. Good news. The other bit of news was that she has some impending overcrowding from a couple of her molars. One of them is actually sitting halfway on top of the other one as it's trying to come in. It's keeping it from coming out of her gums fully. So, it will either start to push forward or out sideways if we can't keep her molars from moving forward more. His idea...a spacer bar. I had one of these for YEARS as a child. I didn't like it cause it kept rubbing my tongue and caught food in it constantly. Plus, I couldn't have taffy or caramel because of it. I asked how long she'd have to have it in and he said no more than six months tops. That was a relief. However, I plan on sending her xrays from yesterday to our regular dentist to get a second opinion before I put a permanent mouthpiece in my daughter for any period of time. So...another dental visit will be in order very soon. Or at least as soon as I can get her in. Hopefully it will be in the next week or two, but not sure with the holidays and all. May have to wait til the first or second week of December. On to other news. My youngest daughter decided to inform me last night, while I was putting the toppings on our pizza, that she is no longer calling me 'mommy' but will be calling me 'mom'. How precocious of her! Yeah. I bet you're thinking the same thing as me. Isn't that supposed to happen in the TEEN YEARS? Geesh. Immediately following, she kept coming into the kitchen and saying, "Mom,...." to anything she had to tell me. Ugh. I dunno where this came from or if it's gonna 'stick', but kinda got me wierded out. What four year old does that?!! |
I saw this on the blog of one of my fellow co-opers, sisterchicksteph. I thought it suited her personality to a tee, from what I know of her at co-op. So, I hit the linky to the test on her blog and took it myself! Here is the result of my own 'personality test'. I think it's pretty accurate, considering I only had to answer twelve questions. Go ahead...take the test and see how you fare. Kinda fun!How Rare Is Your Personality?

As I sit here typing, I'm listening to all kinds of tween music. Yep, I like it too! Last night, I took my eldest daughter to a local teen hang out, The Barn, (since she is jr. high aged) for their junior high night, which is every Saturday night. It's a youth center constructed inside an old barn. I used to go to the same place my jr/senior years of high school, on Friday nights. It was a great Christian place to hang out back then. It still is, though some things have changed since I used to attend. Most of the changes are cosmetic, to the establishment itself. They still have a lot of the same activities though...pool, basketball, air hockey, fooseball, card/board games, playstation, etc. They also sell snacks/pop for the kids. I have terrific memories from that place, since some of my youth group and most of my high school Young Life group hung out there on Fridays as well. I even used to help DJ at the place...taking many requests for different Christian artists that we had tapes of on hand. It was a blast! I have been friends with the owner since I first started going there. It was great to see him again last night. We got a chance to catch up a bit, since it's been a while since we last spoke. He's a terrific man that has a true heart for ministry to the local youth, along with his wife who has so steadfastly supported him in this ministry for years. Wonderful people. Anywhooo...my daughter liked The Barn a lot. However, she knew noone there and she's a bit shy when meeting new people. The only downside of being homeschooled....she doesn't know a lot of the junior high kids in the area. And this is such a hard age to fit in too. However, I was told that there are some homeschoolers that attend as well. Her and I hung out for a while and played some pool and air hockey, but then left. I told my eldest to invite a couple friends her age, from our co-op, so she doesn't feel so alone next week if she wishes to go. Also, she won't have to hang with dear ol' mom there either. lol |

The last week and a half in our house has been a kind of hit or miss thing with cooking. You see, our stove has been going on us. One night the oven will work, another night it won't. One night it will preheat....after 3 hours, and another night it will preheat right away but still not cook. Wierd, I know. So, it's been a guessing game as to what I will be able to fix each night or even IF I will be able to fix something, as I do a LOT of cooking in our oven and not on the cooktop. My hubby got his holiday check from work this week. Normally, most of this goes toward Christmas gifts, and a fall visit up to Michigan to see the in-laws...but this cannot wait. We were planning on getting a new stove with our income tax return, but our stove is not letting us wait til then. So, tonight we went and got a brand new stove. Yes, this is a first for us since our other stove was second-hand. It looks great and cooks wonderfully!! Praise God!! Our new stove:

Today, I went to the Foxnews website to check on the news, as I always do. Yes, there are always going to be sad and disturbing headlines on any news site these days. However, this headline captured my attention immediately and was more disturbing than most...at least to me. No, I don't think Barack Obama is the antichrist or anything, but this seems to be paving the way for the acceptance of a world leader. Here is the headline that was plastered on Foxnews: " Obama: President of the World?" Then, once clicking on the article headline, the actual title of the full article reads: " In Some Nations, People Look to Obama as President of the World". I read the article and found that countries all over the globe are looking for Barack to lead the world to acceptance, peace and unity. For everyone to be hailing him as 'president of the world' before he's even in office is unnerving. To me, it's downright scary...as an American and a Christian.

After our good/bad visit with the endo today, I took the girls to the park to have a little relaxing fun. It was a balmy 75 degrees out today, so it was perfect 'Indian Summer' weather! Here are some pics I shot...everything from my girls, the park, to the fall foliage and sunshine!

We went to the girls' endocrinology appointment in Cincy earlier today. Everything went well. However, they had bloodwork done. Not fun for them. But they were real troopers and didn't cry. They got a new card game in return! How nice! Hopefully everything will come back good and the oldest will have a dosage change! We won't find out for a few days at least but he said she more than likely will. This is good news! But there was some potential bad news as well. We had the doc look over the younger two, which we had discussed with him before. He also took height measurements for both. He was a little concerned about both, especially our youngest as she exhibits a few more noticable symptoms of delayed growth. We are going to continue to monitor their heights for the next 6 months, taking periodic measurements at our family doctor's office. If it looks then that there is any abnormal delays in either of them, we are going to proceed from there with possible testing. After arriving home, I got out both of their growth charts and compared today's measurements against their last ones in May. Both have dropped a bit. Needless to say, I'm disappointed. I was hoping that they wouldn't be affected by this as well. All we can do now is wait and see and pray that they too don't have to go on treatment. |

My hubby planned on going to the voting precinct this morning on his way home from work. However, upon arrival at our usual voting place....the one still listed on our county's board of elections site...noone was there. Not a soul. A man showed up and informed my hubby that they were not using that location as an election site this year. Nice of them to change the locations on their website, eh? So, he drove home to ask me where he was supposed to vote. Luckily, I had kept our absentee ballots which had the new location listed on it next to our own address. So, off he went again to go vote. He arrived at the voting location at 7:30 am and didn't get back home til 8:35. And this place is only about two minutes up the road from us. Yep, the lines were long. But at least it didn't take him as long as I thought it would actually. Upon his arrival home, I then left for my turn to vote. I arrived at 8:40 and didn't leave the voting precinct til almost 10am. They have four different precincts voting at one location this time...which made for a very crowded building. All the lines were running together and noone could tell where they needed to be! The only signs indicating where one should go were on the outiside doors, stating which precincts were voting at that location. However, each precinct was voting in different rooms. So, there was a bit of confusion on the part of a lot of voters. (Luckily my hubby told me exactly where the line was for our particular precinct!) Many stood in line almost 45 minutes until realizing that they were in the wrong line...only because the sign posted on the sign-in table was blocked by the masses. They couldn't actually see it til they reached the front of the line! I felt so sorry for the people who had to change lines and then wait for that LONG time all over again. I am happy to have gotten my vote out of the way earlier in the day. As many of us in line were discussing...the masses would hit at lunch time and after 5pm. Too bad noone could possibly get through the voting lines on their lunchtime...especially if everyone else has the 'same bright idea'. The largest masses will arrive after work today, I'm sure. Thus, the five o'clock rush on the polls...all on their way home from work. It's great to see that so many turned out to vote though. However, I was disappointed to find that there weren't very many younger voters. I'm hoping that they were all either at work or college and will make it later on in the day. I truly don't think that the public schools put enough emphasis on their students future right and privilege to vote though. If they did, maybe a lot of these newer adults would hit the polls as soon as they are allowed! Well, I know who I voted for....hope you all made it out to the polls today as well! May God bless this great nation of ours with the leader He would want us to have. And with a lot of prayer and a little luck...it will be the candidate that I voted for! ha! ha! |

FOR TODAY...Monday, November 3, 2008 Outside my window....I see lots of sunshine. It's a beautiful, autumn day with a bit o' warmth to it! Yea! I am thinking....I have a lot to get done today. I always seem to be behind on something around here. Hopefully I wil get caught up on a little bit of it today! I am thankful for....SUNSHINE! I am trying to enjoy it while it lasts. It won't be long before gloomy, cloud-filled winter days arrive. From the learning rooms....math is taking place. I'm not a fan of math, but two of my girls enjoy it a lot. From the kitchen....nada. Nothing is cooking yet, as it is not yet dinner time. But potato soup is on the menu for tonight! I am wearing....my purple pj's. Very comfy, as always. I am creating....a christmas list for hubby and the kids. I am going....to Carriage Hill tomorrow with my twin to snap some pics of the horses and of the scenery. I'm hoping it will be just as sunny and warm out as it was yesterday and is today. I am reading....nothing at the moment.(aside from this post, that is) I am hoping....we get a lot of school work done today. I am hearing....my fingers hitting the keyboard, my girls talking about the math they are doing, and little one making jokes while sitting next to me. Around the house...I have laundry to do (as always), a few dishes, and some vacuuming. One of my favorite things...is to sit curled up in a chair, with a nice cup of cocoa or tea, and read a book. A few plans for the rest of the week...Pictures at Carriage Hill tomorrow. We also have no Awanas or co-op this week due to a missions conference at the church all week. However, we have an endocrinology visit for two of the girls on Wednesday down in Cincinnati. We are hoping it's all good news on their growth and am hoping for a dosage change on their injections possibly. We will also be discussing the growth of the other two...hoping it goes good. Thursday we may make it to the homeschool gym for the first time this school year. I'm sure the girls will enjoy that a lot. Friday morning, I will be taking my parents to the airport for their trip to the Virgin Islands. I will be caring for their dogs while they are gone, along with giving one of them allergy injections (Oh fun!...Try wrestling a dog that stands up to your lower chest into a position for giving an injection. ha! ha! Here is a picture thought I am sharing...

Well, I'm up WAY early again. I actually fell asleep BEFORE my hubby left for work though! (He leaves the house at 10:30pm to get to work on time.) He did have to wake me up to lock the screen door though...which we keep locks on so that the little one will not 'escape' without our knowing. She did that twice to us when she was 3...very scary. Anywhoo...I got up to lock the screen door and then went right back to bed! However, I woke up at 5 am. Ugh. I am truly trying to fix this sleep cycle mess of mine but my body is just saying NO. I know that I will be tired in a few hours. It always happens this way when I wake up this early...no matter how many hours of sleep I seem to get. You know that saying, "I'm not a morning person"? Well, that truly applies to me. I am conscious in the mornings when I have to be someplace, but I'm not 'awake'. Know what I mean? No, I'm not a coffee drinker either, so that won't help. I LOVE the smell of coffee, but once it hits my taste buds I want to gag. Now, if you hand me a very chocolate coffee with sugar and cream...I might drink it. I mean afterall...it tastes like a cup o' cocoa after all that! ha! ha! Maybe blogging this early will make me tired again? Ya think? Nah..me neither. It's not that taxing to blog. I could probably do it half awake....like right now! Yes, I'm groggy but not tired. Wierd isn't it? Oh well. I guess I'll go hit up some of those homeschool links I got off of the Freebie Fridays post from TOS. Sounds like fun. And as absorbed as I get into some of them, it will definitely be a time killer until I get 'tired' again. Later folks! (when the rest of the world wakes up) |

lol! Next she'll be asking me to drive the van to Awanas!
Sad? No, not really. I'm a 'tween at heart' too...just like my girls! We all like the same kinds of music. Some of it is music I've always listened to and some is newer stuff that my girls got me listening to. ha ha! Isn't that how it always works for us parents though? So long as the songs have clean lyrics and a good beat, we'll listen to it. So, we always enjoy our 'cleaning days' at this house cause we're always listening and singing along to good stuff that we all enjoy while we clean (well, except for my hubby...who being a male has totally different tastes. lol). Obviously, I'm not cleaning right at this moment but typing on my blog. But I will resume my cleaning once I'm done here.
I think she'll like going there a lot, once she makes some new friends or takes some pals to hang with. We'll see how next week goes.
