Remember Tour de Lincoln? After this wildly popular community art project in 2002, the YWCA had decided once again to bring our community together through art. The theme this year is, Star City Art 2006. Here are some thumbnails of the projects submitted. This time around, the artists have their choice of medium and projects include paintings, sculputures, mosaics and even quilts. Here is a map of where these outstanding projects can be seen. We saw the quilt on display at the Indian Village Post Office and it was beautiful! Take some time to stop in on some of these projects with your children...maybe even take some time to make your own Star City Art with your child! These will be on display until April 28, 2006 and then will be sold at auction to raise money for the YWCA.
Check out the rest of the activity guide for lots of great projects and activities, including mask-making, learning about taking a book and turning into a play and hitting the trail to history with the Nebraska State Historical Society. Activities related to the Oregon Trail and Lewis and Clark Expeditions will be offered January 28. Pre-registration required.
This is not directly related to home schooling, but might be of interest to you homesteady types or those with older children interested in agriculture.
