I thought I would post an Introduction of sorts and date it AHEAD so it is always the first post you read when coming to my Blog.

I updated this post July 6, 2009

So here goes:

I am a homeschooling working mom of 4 amazing children.  DH is proudly serving in the Navy and will soon be joining the USS San Antonio.  We currently live in Virginia and LOVE to explore all the awesome historical places around the state.

We started homeschooling in 2003 when we lived in Naples, Italy and named our school Casa Luce Homeschool which is Italian for Light House (or House Light if you want to be LITERAL).

For fun (and a little $) I teach Wilton Method Cake decorating at a local craft store.  Last fall I became certified as a Red Heart Ambassador so hopefully I will be teaching crochet classes soon.  While I am home I work online.

Our two oldest children have blogs as well casaluceprincess and casalucetomazo, they don’t blog much but I am working on changing that.  They have "published" their first books after attending a Writer’s Funshop with an AWESOME fellow homeschool mom.  I am hoping I can get them to share more as we continue the routine she helped us establish.

I have loads of interests and hobbies including: blogging & other computer stuff, sewing, photography (with real film and all), gardening, pottery (as in clay and a wheel not paint ‘n go), crochet (can’t knit a stitch), cake decorating, bread baking, frugal living (although I fell off the wagon a while back, we are climbing back on), scrap booking, stamping, card making, art history and more.

Although we have used Switched on Schoolhouse as the "backbone" of our schooling for the past several years we are shifting our focus off the computer this year and will be using Saxon Math and Sonlight.  School starts August 10th!  This year we will be teaching K, 7th and 8th, where does the time go?

We have also used Bob Jones (so disappointed that HomeSat is gone), Math U See and other curriculums, have questions?  Just e-mail me!

I am re-doing this blog and moving things in from my other blogs.  Soon you will see posts from my other Blog "The Battle is His."  This blog contained information about Autisim and Asperger’s Syndrome.  A disorder which our oldest son was diagnosed with in the fall of 2007.

So this "New Creation" blog will focus on daily life, family news, advocacy for Autisim and Asperger’s Syndrome, military and wounded warriors (show ‘em some love HERE!), articles I find that encourage me, yummie recipes, funny stuff, company and product reviews and of course my unbridled opinions about world events.

A great BIG THANKS to Ally of Mission Field Designs for helping me pretty up this blog, she is AWESOME.  If you need help with your blog go see her!

First and foremost is FAITH.

1. We homeschool because we FIRMLY believe God called us to do so.  To disobey God would be a sin.  Does this mean our family is 100% perfect and obeys God in 100% of everything?
Sadly no, but we are daily striving to have the heart and mind of Christ.

2. We can take our Bibles with us to class.

3. We can PRAY
We pray openly before meals, tests or whenever someone just needs to.

4. We can teach from a Christ Centered view point in all areas of study.
While we do study with secular tutors and even dare to go out of the house and host events with those who do not profess to be Christians most of our study time is in material that teaches from a Christian viewpoint.  And yes, I do teach my children about evolution and the Big Bang, but right after they give you the "correct worldy" answer, you better be prepared to hear the truth!

 FAMILY
6. As a military family we homeschool because we schedule our life around deployments, family celebrations and in recent days serious family illness.

7. We take homeschool with us wherever we go.  We can spend a week, a month or a year away from home and still be active in our pursuit of a quality Christ centered education.

HEALTH
8. We can sleep in.
School kids typically get less sleep than the recommended amount for healthy development.

    • 1-3 Years Old : 12 – 14 hours per day
    • 3-6 Years Old: 10 ¾ – 12 hours per day
    • 7-12 Years Old: 10 – 11 hours per day
    • 12-18 Years Old: 8 ¼ – 9 ½ hours per day

From Web MD:

Sleep needs remain just as vital to health and well-being for teenagers as when they were younger. It turns out that many teenagers over 15 actually need more sleep than in previous years. Now, however, social pressures conspire against getting the proper amount and quality of sleep.

Teens are not getting the sleep they once did, and many have difficulty falling asleep and frequently wake up at night. This is not normal, and all this is taking a toll. Sleep deprivation is associated with mood changes and behavioral problems, including conduct disorders and inattention.

One study of U.S. high school students found that 13% were chronically sleep-deprived. Other international studies confirm the global nature of this problem. Not getting enough sleep and not sleeping well is not OK.

9. No compulsory HPV vaccinations for 11-year-old (or younger) girls.
As parents we maintain the right to determine whether or not our children should be vaccinated. Several states have now passed laws requiring 11 & 12 year-old girls be innoculated with the HPV vaccine.

10. No "Teen-Screen."  Reason #244 We Are Glad We Homeschool: Teen Screen
As parents maintain the right to determine whether or not our childen’s mental health should be evaluated and whether or not our children should be given psychotropic drugs.

11. No mandatory "SEX-Ed" classes that teach "Safe Sex" we teach our children that sex and all sexual activity should be reserved for marriage (and by the way marriage is designed for ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN).  We teach our older children about sexually transmitted diseases and the risks of sex outside of the marriage covenant.

Politics
Our classroom is not controlled or influenced by social groups trying to indoctrinate our children into their cause.

12. No "Day of Silence" to support unhealthy and immoral life choices.
Reason #458 We Are Glad We Homeschool "Day of Silence"

From AFA "The Day of Silence, which is sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), fast approaches. This year it will take place in most public schools on April 17. On this day, thousands of public high schools and increasing numbers of middle schools will allow students to remain silent throughout an entire day-even during instructional time-to promote GLSEN’s socio-political goals and its controversial, unproven, and destructive theories on the nature and morality of homosexuality."

I told you in my introduction that I had many Blogs.  Some were "alternate identities" because I don’t want the world to know EVERYTHING about me.  Others were because I was dealing with things I wasn’t ready for friends and family to know about me or my family.  I am trying now to pull all these pieces together.

I will be posting things from one of my other blogs: The Battle is HIS.  This was a blog I had that was for Asperger’s Syndrome which my oldest son has been diagnosed with.  It is a high functioning form of Autism and it explains a LOT of his quirky and sometimes infuriating behaviors.

I wasn’t ready to tell the world when he was diagnosed because I had no clue WHAT to tell friends and family.  Now I am older, wiser and ready to speak out about this crazy disorder.

If you want to know more about these posts read "The Battle is His" in my categories.

Sometimes I forget my Blog is here, and I go away from it for LONG periods of time.  I often forget that there could be others reading what I store here for my own edification and reference.

Today I got an e-mail.  I would like to share parts of that e-mail and my reply with those who might happen by this blog and wonder…what do you mean by "The Battle is HIS???"

May I ask what your mean when you say "The Battle is HIS"?  I’m
wondering because our son is {age removed} and its a phrase my
husband uses often meaning he has to be the one to do some things.

Best wishes,

MY REPLY:

I took my blog name from the scripture "The battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands." 1 Samuel 17:47 (NIV)" because I know that I can not fight this diagnosis on my own.  Likewise I can not expect my son to fight it on his own either.  No matter how tired I get from the fight ultimately I am not alone in the battle, and it IS a daily battle, but so much easier when given unto HIM who will never leave us or forsake us.

Yes, meds are an option we are considering.  But they are only temporary "band-aids" for the more permanent problem.  We are seeking total and complete healing.  I will not rest with the diagnosis or prognosis that my son can not, will not be whole.
{Parts removed}

Don’t get me wrong, the road is HARD!  I have OFTEN fallen off the wagon and had to repent not only to God but my son as well.  I DAILY deal with my own emotional issues and MANY times I lose it with him.  Still I continue day by day knowing that God has a plan for him (ad me) and that He knew I would be his mother and that was part of HIS plan for our son.

So my new found friend remember to be a FROG and Fully Rely On God, His resources are NEVER limited, His mercies are NEW every morning and those that wait UPON HIM shall renew their strength!

Be Blessed!

When a soldier comes home, he finds it hard….

..to listen to his son whine about being bored.

….to keep a straight face when people complain about potholes.

to be tolerant of people who complain about the hassle of getting ready for work.

…to be understanding when a co-worker complains about a bad night’s sleep.

…to be silent when people pray to God for a new car.

…to control his panic when his wife tells him he needs to drive slower.

..to be compassionate when a businessman expresses a fear of flying.

….to keep from laughing when anxious parents say they’re afraid to send their kids off to summer camp.

….to keep from ridiculing someone who complains about hot weather.

….to control his frustration when a colleague gripes about his coffee being cold.

….to remain calm when his daughter complains about having to walk the dog.

…..to be civil to people who complain about their jobs.

….to just walk away when someone says they only get two weeks of vacation a year.

….to be forgiving when someone says how hard it is to have a new baby in the house.

The only thing harder than being a Soldier..Is loving one.

And saying goodbye forever…

So when you see a soldier coming home…

SAY…

And while they are gone say a prayer and show your support!

I was asked to pass this on and I will gladly do so, Will you???
