Charlotte Mason All-Day Seminar

This is a special invitation to join us for Sonya Shafer’s presentation of Simply Charlotte Mason’s All-Day Seminar. The seminar was recorded live, complete with questions and comments from the audience.

Whether you’re new to Charlotte Mason, want to implement more of her methods, or just need a refreshing boost for your home school, the All-Day Charlotte Mason Seminar will give you the confidence and encouragement you need.

When: Saturday, March 12, 2011

8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Where: Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church

5556 Bend of the River Rd.

Rocky Mount, NC 27803

Cost: $18 (This covers your seminar notebook, lunch, and refreshments)

Here is a look at our day:

8:30: Doors Open

9:00-9:15: Welcome, Overview of Day’s Events, Introductions

9:15 – 10:00: Session 1: Introducing Charlotte Mason

We start off the sessions learning a little about Charlotte Mason herself, her mottoes for parents and children, and how she fits into world history. Hear the story of how her methods changed home schoolrooms. Learn how this flexible, proven, and effective approach can be put to use in home schools today.

10:00 – 10:30: Break

10:30 – 12:00: Session 2: CM Methods
Session 2 launches into the main focus of the seminar: how to teach each school subject using Charlotte Mason methods. Lots of moms have told us that one of the highlights of the seminar is learning several of the main methods by actually doing them. Its great practice and you’ll learn first-hand what you are asking your children to do. This session covers History, Geography, Art, Handicrafts and Life Skills, Poetry, Bible, Scripture Memory, Spelling, and Math.

12:00 – 1:00: Lunch

1:00 – 2:30: Session 3: CM Methods (continued)
This session is filled with more practical, hands-on experience and plenty of Q & A as we continue to look at each school subject the Charlotte Mason way. Session 3 covers Copy work, Composition, Foreign Language, Science, Nature Study, Music, Literature, and English Grammar.

2:30 – 3:00: Break

3:00 – 4:00: Session 4: Laying Down the Rails
For the last session, we have the Laying Down the Rails workshop on habits. This quick, practical overview of Laying Down the Rails, SCM’s best-selling printed book, really helps moms get a jump-start on how to cultivate good habits in their homes. Good habits are the key to smooth and easy days.

For those who are interested in joining us, please contact Nancy Parrish atndparrish@embarqmai l.com

Sign-up deadline is March 1, 2011 so that I will have time to order the materials for everyone attending.

This is a unique opportunity for visitors to experience both centuries of site history, says Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson Site Manager Brenda Bryant.

THE 2011 TOUR: February 1 – May 15

Fresh on the heels of its 2010 tour sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts’ Shakespeare in American Communities program the 2011 tour of Shakespeare To Go offers educators a choice between a 60-minute production of Romeo and Juliet for middle and high schools or Star-Crossed Shakespeare, an all-new 40-minute version for elementary school students.

Book a Shakespeare To Go performance, and we’ll give you an entire play…well, minus a few words here and there six actors, each playing multiple roles, sword play and some of the most famous and memorable characters in all of dramatic literature! NCSF promises an inviting and interactive experience that will enrich your school’s study of the world’s greatest dramatic figure.

Romeo and Juliet (for middle and high schools)
In 60 minutes with six actors, we’ll give you the whole enchilada (well, nearly the whole thing) the warring families, the balcony scene, the intrigue, the sword-fighting, the tragic deaths! You won’t want to miss this production of, arguably, Shakespeare’ s most famous play.

Star-Crossed Shakespeare (for elementary grades 3-5)
It’s Shakespeare for elementary school. In this special performance written for grades 3-5, STG actors present a fast, funny and interactive introduction to theatre and poetry as they tell the famous story of the “star-crossed” Romeo and Juliet.
