Litfuse Tour: “Along Wooded Paths” by Tricia Goyer

About the Book:
All she wanted was a simple Amish life… But now Marianna Sommer finds herself depending on Englisch neighbors. Although proud of living apart from the world, she and her newly relocated Amish family have discovered that life in the remote mountains of Montana requires working together.
As Marianna begins helping those different from herself-and receiving their help-her heart contemplates two directions. She’s torn between the Amish man from Indiana whom she has long planned on marrying and the friendly Englischer who models a closer walk with God than she’s ever seen before.
Who should have young Marianna’s heart? What is God asking her to sacrifice? Her traditions? Her community? The answer is found along the wooded paths.

My Opinion:
Having read Beside Still Waters I was excited to be able to read Along Wooded Paths which picks up just where Waters leaves off, but could still be read as a stand alone book, although until some past are brought up you may be a little confused. What I like about Tricia’s writing is that her characters come to life and it doesn’t seem faked or forced when it comes to their dilemmas and choices they must make.
Marianna is a very likable character in that we can almost see ourselves in her, such as who should be spend our life with. How to be a valuable member of a family while still having her own life so she can be the person God wants her to be. Also struggling with questions of Faith, should she stay Amish, if so should she stay in Montana or move to Indiana? Marianna realizes that she needs the Lord even more but her beau from Indiana realizes there is a change in her – back in Indiana the Amish in the book don’t have such an open belief as those Amish are finding in Montana.
This is another wonderful book from Tricia Goyer, her writing does a great job in putting you into another world and making you feel as if you’re breathing the clean mountain air and feeling the crisp winter snows. The characters almost seem like an extension of your family, you get to know them not just as characters with issues but as characters that have a ‘life’. If you enjoy Amish fiction or even just a book that can be called Christian fiction then grab Tricia’s newest book.
