Sneads Ferry is the place to be, Farm livin' is the Live for Me....

Sorry I haven't posted lately:( I've been getting complaints:) I would post pictures, but my wee G4 is giving me pain, because I can't figure out how to post pics w/ safari. doh. So, me and my siblings have watched a *lot* of Disney Channel. I know it sounds weird, but there are no good kid's channels in Israel(shocker-huh?) Annoyingly enough, the Jonas Brothers are all over Disney. ARRGH! you can't get to a commercial break without Jonas Brothers-Demi Lavato drool everywhere in prep for their new movie Camp Rock. In fact, I just watched Camp Rock. Ugh...it was goofy, but relatively harmless. "Ear candy in a time or Truth decay" to coin a phrase. hmmm, what else? my friend Anna cam over to spend the night! it was fun:) we laughed about various regnant follies. haha. tired, stupified laughter:) I got an IRONMAN t-shirt:) I needed a pair of pj's(that didn't envolve "going green") So, i just got a cool t to wear at night. anyhoo, hope you all have a good weekend. onedaymore

On The Subject of Magic I

Hi, I'm back:)

So, back to the subject of magic. This is a very contreversial debate in the Christian circle. I am not stating these opinions just because I felt convicted of an obsession and want to save the world or because I felt uncomfortable. I'm writing these quotes to ponder them in my heart.

While reading the Prelude chapter to a Midsommer's Night Dream(prelude written by Jared Miller), I was drawn in by his description of magic and how it can relate to the Christian faith. So, enjoy:)

"Christians have often been suspicious of magic, even when it appears to literature. This is understandable attitude has its root Israel's law, which forbade any kind of witchcraft (Duet.  18:10-14; Lev. 19:6) and which was reaffirmed in the New Testament when newly converted Christians burned their books of magic (Acts 19:19). Furthermore, the only supernatural creatures the Bible talks about are angels or demons, so Christians often don't know what to do with stories about faeries, elves and hobgoblins.
What are we to make of this? As you've learned from reading stories like J.R.R Tolkein's Lord of the Rings and C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, magic (understood in a certain way) can be a rich inspiration for Christian literature. It expresses the key doctrine that the world is personal and poetic, not mechanical. After all, a world created out of nothing, only by a word.It is a world governed by a faithful covenant and upheld by God’s power (Heb. 1:3; Col. 1:17). It is a world where miracles happen: languages are mysteriously mixed up, oceans are parted, iron floats on water, a virgin gives birth, water is changed into wine and the dead are raised to life. In this sense the Bible is full of magic.
Magic in literature also makes us see in a new light the things that we think we know already. Lewis describes Christ’s atonement in terms of the Deep Magic of Aslan and the Emperor-over-the-Sea. Tolkien describes the artistry and skill of the elves in terms of magic. Sauron’s ring becomes a symbol of selfishness, excessive ambition and the corrupting desire for unlimited power. We know that those things are evil when we start the book, but actually seeing them at work in the story adds a whole new dimension. Christian literature can rightly use the categories of good magic and bad magic rather than avoiding magic altogether. "

well that is part I, I hope you enjoyed it:)
and yes, there is more:)

intro to the subject of magic

I just recently started A Midsommer's Night Dream by you-know-who in my Omnibus:)

The prelude for the book had some very good points on the subject of magic and Christianity. I thought that some you you would enjoy these little tid-bits for the mind. It sort-of made me look at magic with a new light.
I'll be posting these quotes later, when I have more time. Mom and I have been running every morning and busy until late hours:)

God Bless,

wondering where I was?

Yeah, my parents suprised me by letting me go to america with my dad for 5 days. My dad had to go there for his job, so I stayed with my Nana and my Ufo and Aunt Whitney.

It was a lot of fun, I had to do a whole bunch of shopping....because you can't get anything quality here for less that 100 bucks. crazy, huh?

I watched a few cool movies, of course, my Ufo and I are movie buffs. We saw, Transformers, which was incredible on his high def screen! and Finding Neverland, which was sweet and Back To the future, which was cute. I just wish they didn't put all that junk into Back to The Future and Transformers....so annoying.

We also went touring, again, of course...I went to a really cool shakespeare museum in D.C. I got this really funny t-shirt that says " To bike or not to bike, there is no question" and on the back it says "bike with the bard: follow me where I wheel" I thought it was hilarious!

Well, I've got to go to bed, now, I'm working on waking up earlier in the morning, except I like staying up late:)

God Bless,

Prayer Request: Mrs. G

Well, I have a prayer request for you all. A couple of friends of ours, Mrs.G and Bella, got in a car accident about 3 weeks ago while Katy was summing up her visit with me.
Bella is fine and is at home with her younger sister A., her father and loving grandmas.
Mrs. G was the one who suffered the most from the accident. Her body is very broken and it was not probable that she would live the first day.
Heh, not probable maybe, but possible:)
She has wowed the doctors by flourishing over the past few weeks. She is still mostly unresponsive and in a deep sleep most of the time.

But, I just wanted to ask you guys to pray for her and her family.

Happy Brithday to Rose!

Happy Birthday Rose!

In honor of your birthday, I'm going to post a very sweet, old fashioned recipe from the book Little Women.
And some rose icons, of course:)

Jo's Cards of Gingerbread:

Jo remembered the kind old gentleman,
who used to let her build railroads and
bridges with his big dictionaries, tell
her stories about the queer pictures
in his Latin books, and buy her cards
of gingerbread whenever he met her in
the street.

                          ~Little Women, Chapter 4

2 tablespoons butter, softened
1/4 cup white or brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Beat the butter and the sugar together until creamy. Stir in Molasses. Mix the flour, baking soda ,cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and salt and add to the butter mixture alternately with the water, one third at a time. the dough will be stiff.
On a lightly floured board, roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Using  ruler as a guide, trim the edges of the dough with a sharp knife or pastry wheel. Cut the dough into rectangles about 3"x 4". with a wide spatula, transfer the cards to a lightly greased baking sheet. bake for about 8 minutes. Cool te cards on a wire rack. When completely cool, decorate designs with icing.

And here's some Rose icons, just for you:)

and some tea icons
