The Road Less Traveled
• Jun. 25, 2008 - Performance
Sorry for the long absence! Unfortunately, first trimester woes have hit me full swing. Morning-noon-night-through the night nausea, dizziness, exhaustion, etc. I really look forward to the day when these symptoms ease up!
On a brighter note, my oldest got to perform his song for our homeschool graduation. I wasn't sure how it would go, as he had a cough and sore throat the week leading up to his performance. The Lord was kind, and my son's symptoms mostly disappeared the morning of the graduation! He decided to play the piano and sing at the same time. He did an awesome job! Even though he messed up a couple of times, he just kept right on without batting an eyelash. This is really a blessing- when he made mistakes at home, he was not so composed! lol I really must say that all of the kids did a fantastic job! While I didn't get to see the whole thing live (my 3yo did his usual thing and ran to the nursery- I had to follow), I got to see it on video later. I did get to see my 7 yo perform in person, though, as he went first! |

• Jun. 9, 2008 - Faster Than A Speeding Bullet...
It's: Super Muttley and his feline side-kick, Starrkitty! (My dh and dc came up with those names.)
Super Muttley prepares to save the day:

Ready for action! :

I think it's safe to say that Starr was not amused about being made to wear a cape. My 7yo thought that she needed to match Super Muttley, though, so wear it she did. After dressing her in her super-attire, ds called me over to show me his handy work. I had just enough time to snap a picture before she started trying to claw it off! :

A super-puppy needs his rest after a full day of saving the world! :

• Jun. 3, 2008 - Prayer Request
Last night, a couple from our church lost a granddaughter. The girl's sister is in critical condition. They were riding in a horse-drawn buggy when a truck plowed into them.
Please pray for the Lord to be with their family and give them peace and comfort in their grief. Also, please pray for the health and well-being of the little girl that is still with them. |

• Jun. 2, 2008 - Good News
My husband and I just learned that we are expecting! I don't have an exact due date yet, but the baby will probably be born around late January or earlier February next year. We are thrilled! God has blessed us sooo much lately, and I just don't think that I could possibly ever thank Him enough for His gifts!
My oldest, having gone through this once before, is happy. He is already "Mommy's Big Helper" with chores, with his brother and with our puppy. In a few months, he will be allowed to help me with his new little brother or sister, too. He is excited that he will be a big brother to one more child! I'm not entirely certain that my 3yo understands exactly what is going on, but he likes babies and seemed happy to learn that before long, we will have one in the house.
I'm feeling pretty well, so far. I get carsick and wake up around 3:00 a.m. each morning with nausea, but it's not that bad (yet). I had around-the-clock nausea with both of my boys. With my oldest, it began around week 6 or 7 and lasted all the way through birth! During my second pregnancy, it began about the same time, but only lasted through the first trimester. Time will tell how this one goes! I have already dug out my sea-sickness bands and will be buying ingredients for tummy tea this week.
also im quikly develping. a case of momy-brane! I have been forgetting things, wandering around the house without purpose (OK, that happened before I became pregnant, but it's worse now), etc. Well, at least it's temporary! |

• May. 27, 2008 - My Budding Rock Stars
My oldest will be singing "The Battle Is Not Ours" (Veggie Tales, the Esther episode) for our local homeschool graduation this year. He has been practicing every day, even playing it on the piano! Here, he sings and plays it on the toy keyboard:

Not to be outdone, little brother has tried to learn the song and sings his own version of it regularly. He is shown here playing random notes on his toy keyboard and singing what he can remember:

Of course, any time his younger brother tries to imitate him, my seven-year-old absolutely must jump in to coach him:

OK, now they're just being silly:

Often, my oldest can be seen wandering around the house with his new Veggie Tales songbook. Not content to learn only his performance material, he has taken it upon himself to learn a few others from the book. His favorite, which he sings every day now in duet with his brother, is "Haman's Song". When he is not performing that one, he *sings* "Salesmunz Rap" (from the Madame Blueberry episode). As a matter of fact, he is doing it right now!

• May. 17, 2008 - The Great Outdoors
With all of this warm weather, we have been able to hold outdoor fencing classes again. Yay! With the exception of waaaayyy too many biting flies, it has been great.
As you can see, the last practice began with some very serious and formal warmups:

Fencing is a sport that requires constant physical conditioning, which can be accomplished in many ways. Here, the class demonstrates jumping up from a kneeling position and racing to the dandelions. In addition to this, as shown above, dog-piling the instructor is used to hone strength and coordination.

Our four-legged assistant instructor is fitting right in:

• May. 12, 2008 - Puppies are cuddly, puppies are cute...
The puppy song from the Veggie Tales "Esther" episode keeps running through my head! Last Thursday, we adopted a furry vaccuum cleaner. He is a four month old beagle/dachshund mix. He is very affectionate and energetic! Now, if only I could get rid of the Eau-de-Doggie scent that has permeated my house... It will probably get better when he is fully house trained!
My four-legged toddler will not stand still for long, but I've been able to get a few pictures:

• May. 7, 2008 - Wisdom from the cookie jar
My three year old sensed that I was in need of spiritual inspiration this morning. He spoke the following pearls of wisdom to me:
"God is bigger than frogs. It goes small, medium, large, God. Flies are gross." It was just what I needed to hear! |

Here are a few new photos:
Today's lessons ended with a reading lesson for the toddler:

We do still have some snow...

...but, rest assured, it's spring time here, too!

Luke, I am your brother:

It's...mud season!!!

• Apr. 18, 2008 - Petition
For those of you who are not aware, a mother in North Carolina recently had an issue with a particular magazine cover, left out in the open at Walmart. The woman asked the store to do something about it, and they refused. She began an online petition, located at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Walmart-Magazines/?e.
Please take a minute to read and sign this! You should be aware that the language used is blunt and specific to the situation-- you may wish to remove any young children from the room when you read it, if they can see your computer monitor.
