DS = DS

Nintendo and PS2, DS and Xbox too!
Without these what did we do?
Lots of fun things it's true!
What's next? What's new?
Will our grands cut and glue?
The what ifs and how toos?
What did we do with no computer to use?
Bottom line still stands,
It's all in the good Lord's hands!

Written By Nadeen Pagano

Maybe if DS's just gorge themselves on Nintendo DS they will get over it during the first few weeks of summer. I'm trying to come up with a exchange plan of hours reading + chores + outside play +  practicing  =  "screen time"!  I could give them tickets, maybe?    Any suggestions?

Ice Castles

My dear children have had a "snow day" mixing drops of food color into water buckets and watching them freeze on the picnic table.  They are popping the huge ice cubes out of the pails and building a colorful ice castle!  What a splendid idea from the community newspaper.  They are learning what colors are mixed to create new colors.  I hope I have some food color left for Easter!  I'll try to take photos!

The Woodpecker May Have To Go

The woodpecker might have to go!

Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah's ..
Ark.

One: Don't miss the boat.

Two: Remember that we are all in the same boat.

Three: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

Four: Stay fit. When you're 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.

Five: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

Six: Build your future on high ground.

Seven : For safety sake, travel in pairs.

Eight: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.

Nine: When you're stressed, float a while.

Ten: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

Eleven: No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.

On-Line THE OLD SCHOOLHOUSE Magazine

The Old Schoolhouse magazine is my favorite magazine!  There is so much information packed into it, that I have to take it to bed with me to read all the articles.   You'll often find me sneaking a peek in my TOS while my children are doing there schoolwork . . . and reading out loud from the magazine to them at lunch!  I dog-ear the corners of pages of advertising so I can come on-line and check on curriculum choices.

Now you can browse through a copy of TOS yourself!  In full color, at your computer!  Here's the link to The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.  You may have to enlarge your screen to read the print.  The pages really turn!  Very Awesome!

Breaking Bread Together

One of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions is "Breaking Bread Together."  Thanks to Family Fun Magazine . . . we have shared a simply meaningful tradition for several years.

You need:

  • Several Cans of (Pillsbury) Crescent Rolls
  • 1/2" Strips of Paper cut from Index Cards
  • Pencils

Have each Thanksgiving guest write down on the strip of paper what they are thankful for this year and sign their name.

Have the guests roll their paper into a crescent roll and place on the pan to bake.

Bake the rolls as directed . . . watching so any paper sticking out the ends doesn't burn.  (Hint: Baking stones work wonderfully and prevent burning)

Place the rolls in a basket lined with a linen towel.

At the beginning of the Thanksgiving meal, pass the rolls around and have everyone take one, break open and share with everyone what the other person has to be thankful for.

Most often, the strip of paper isn't big enough to hold all our Thankfulness!

The Promise

Last evening, Preacher Boy(9) was 'preaching' soul-style.  So, we pulled up chairs and were shouting "Come on, now"

to Preacher Boy's

"You've got to have the Holy Ghost TODAY!  Not tomorrow, not next week, or next month, or next year . . . but TODAY!  NOW is the time!"

Well, . . . I looked down on my lap to see big ol' tears welling up in Sister's eyes.  I asked her if she wanted us to pray for her to receive the Holy Ghost.  She did.  As our family gathered around her she lifted her face and her voice to Jesus and He filled her with the precious Holy Ghost!

That night, I held her in her bed as she sang and prayed in that precious heavenly language until she drifted off into the most peaceful sleep!

There is no greater joy than to know my children walk in Truth!

 Acts 2:38-39

Then Peter said unto them,

"Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise is unto you, and your children and to those a far off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."

Bento Lunch Boxes

Remember wishing for a Holly Hobbie Lunch Box?  Or were you ever embarassed to have to carry an EXTRA LARGE brown bag to school?  If your kids are getting tired of eating the same ol' PBJ's . . . maybe you can get them making Bentos for the entire Home School!

DD5 and I just spent an hour drooling over these adorable box lunches.  From what I understand, Bento is the style of lunch box used by Asian children.  Even more amazing is this incredible mother craft punches smiling faces out of nori to place on adorable animal shaped foods!  Then she has time to photograph and post it to her blog before her dd5 tosses her backpack around.  I'm sure her dd5 makes all her classmates and even her teachers want to trade lunch with her!

I thought I was pretty amazing using a cookie cutter flower to cut out flower shaped sandwiches for my dd5's birthday tea party.  Perhaps dd5 would eat her veggies if I cut them into a Hello Kitty shape and put a darling face on it!

DD5 wishes I was a Bento Mommy!  I'll have to see what I can design.  I'd have to post it to my blog . . . or it would hardly seem worth the trouble not having school kids fighting over the cutest lunch!

Are your Children Home Grown or "Canned"?

Don't you love fresh garden veggies?  They taste SO much better than whatever comes in a tin can!  We are enjoying those yummy fresh-drip-down-to-your-elbow tomatoes!  BLT's anyone? Salsa?

How about your children?  Home Grown? . . . or just "canned"?

Home School Contest

Here are my responses to Gena's contest. . .

WHY WE HOMESCHOOL

"Hear, O Isreal: The Lord our God is one Lord;
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thysoul and with all thy might.
And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in thine heart:
And THOU SHALT TEACH THEM DILIGENTLY UNTO THY CHILDREN, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."

Deuteronomy 6:4-7

Parents have been commanded to "Teach their children"
. . . not the government
. . . not the public schools
. . . and not necessarily, the church.

It is OUR OWN responsibility to
"Train our children up in the way he should go: that when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Proverbs 22:6

HOW LONG WE WILL HOMESCHOOL

"I HAVE NO GREATER JOY than to hear that my children walk in truth."

III John 1:4

High School?  YES!
Maybe even College!
DS(9) wondered aloud, "Mom, can you home school me through College?"
It is a joy to teach my children according to their individual gifts and help them grow in ". . .Wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man."  Luke 2:52

BEST ADVICE FOR NEW HOME SCHOOLERS

And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and GREAT SHALL BE THE PEACE of thy children."

Isaiah 54:13

I am so thankful that THE LORD, my husband and I can have the greatest influence on our children's upbringing . . . and not their peer group.  That brings our family great peace!

The Old Schoolhouse Magazine is my favorite homeschooling magazine.

The Spring issue treated me to articles written by several of my

Easter Rolls (The Empty Tomb)

Easter Rolls
(The Empty Tomb)

1 pkg frozen bread/dinner rolls dough-thawed
1 pkg large marshmellows
margarine or butter melted
cinnamon-sugar

On baking sheet
Flatten each roll and place 1 marshmellow inside then form dough around it and pinch closed.
Place closed side down on pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
Cool for a short time then remove or they may stick to the pan.
Brush with melted margarine or butter and sprinkle cinnamon sugar over them.
These are very sweet rolls for Easter morning.  Best if served hot.
The marshmellow melts out of the rolls leaving the rolls hollow inside.

Thanks to Marie for letting us post her recipe!
