Hello dear ones,
I was sitting out on the porch this evening, thinking about the school year. I remember when I was young, the summer seemed to go on forever. Usually, after a week or so though, me and my sisters were bored 'cause we had "done it all". We would tell Mom that we didn't have anything to do and she'd say, "I'll give you something to do! Now, go out and play!!" Since we were NOT interested in doing chores, we always found things to do. In those days, it was safe to walk out on the road. No one would bother you and we always found treasures in the ditch! Down in the field in front of the house was this HUGH rock that we'd play on. It was the size of an elephant and we had lots of fun playing on it and pretending.(My brother lives there now, and when I saw "the rock" for the first time in years, it was shocking to see that it was so small...I wondered when it had shrunk.) Summer was exciting, fun, wonderful and boring. Yeah, the good ole' days.
Now though, I'm glad that school is starting up. The grandchildren play to much with their XBox, PS2 and our computers. We bought them their game stations AND games...now I'm sorry we did. We had Thomas and Eric, two of our grandsons this summer. We made them play outside, swim at the pool, take walks with me, ride their bikes...they loved it. But they also played their games for a couple hours or more at night before they'd sleep. I was just to tired to argue with them about it. That's where the kids now a days have us. We're just to tired. At least Grandma is.
But school is back, so the kids can do some "learning". It's SO good for them, VERY good for mom's and dad's and WONDERFUL for grandparents! Hey, we paid our taxes.....send the kids to school!
Blessings to every one. Life is so good, and restful, and peaceful....on the porch. |
