Moving

Hi Friends.  Sorry if you haven’t heard from me much lately.  Between crazy busy and sicknesses (sinus/cold/tired), I just haven’t been blogging much — more like just cboxing, and that’s about it.  Oh, but I did start another blog and you will find me there.  Eventually, I plan on closing down this blog completely.

I am grateful for Homeschool Blogger as this forum has allowed me to learn how to blog – I started this blog nearly 4 years ago and have written over 550 posts since then (500 of which I have already deleted).  The best part of being here these past few years is making some wonderfully dear friends who have graciously shared their lives with me through thick and thin and loved me just the way I am — goofiness and all.  I consider some of these likeminded blogger friends my best friends.

When I considered moving my blog, HSBer seemed to be down more than up and already most of my friends had already made the move to Blogger or other servers, or have quit blogging entirely  – the sense of community is just not as it use to be 3 or 4 years ago.

With that said, if you wish to continue to follow me, you can find me here: http://prairiedays.blogspot.com/.  I’m not completely set up there the way I want, but that will have to wait until after the holidays and I have more time & ambition.

Blessings!

Prairie Girl Players

The girls love to do plays, and every once in a while, Jeff and I are treated to a performance.  Last night we attended a play in the barn theatre…

Little Women
Anna found a 4-scene play in a “Cobblestone” Magazine.  They practiced for days and memorized all their lines.  The platform for the hay made a perfect stage, and old blankets hanging on ropes & lunge lines worked well for curtains.  I don’t think Jeff really understood it as he knows nothing about “Little Women”, but anything the girls love, we love.

Halfway through the play, Anna’s pony ran up to her stall and let out a snort, and these two decided to sit on my lap.

Country drama at it’s finest!

Capturing Everyday Moments

Our lowly little daffodil.

Often when Elsa & Midnight go out on the porch together, it reminds me of the movie, "Homeward Bound".  Just too cute!   Sharing a rare moment.

Mashed Potatoes & Hamburger Gravy

Someone (anonymous?) asked if I would share my recipe for hamburger gravy from my last post.  I would be happy too.  I just put this recipe together a couple of years ago after reminicing about my favorite hot lunch meal in public school.  I was  a pretty fussy eatter when I was young and usually brought the same boring bag lunch to school most every day (I was afraid to tell my mom that I need some variety), but whenever they served mashed potatoes with hamburger gravy, I could hardly wait until lunch time – perhaps because I’m such a meat and potatoes kind of gal; anyways, here it goes.  It’s not exactly how I remember it, but pretty close….

Brown hamburger in large skillet (1, 1.5, or 2 lbs)
You can also add chopped onion & garlic to hamburger & sautee until tender (we like a lot)

Add: 1 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup & some water and/or broth  (depending on how much meat you have – but until it’s more gravy like – see below about broth).

I always save/freeze leftover broth whenever I bake chicken or beef in quart-size freezer bags.  I just take out a beef broth bag and add to the mix and add additional water if needed.  OR, if you have some leftover gravy from a recent meal, you can add that.  Last night I had some leftover KFC gravy in the fridge that I added.  You could probably use beef boullion too, but since I’m allergic to all those preservatives, I have to stay more natural.

Stir all the ingredients together with the browned hamburger & heat until bubbly.  Season to taste.

That’s it!  Serve over a large serving of mashed potatoes for a hardy meal.

This is one of us girls’ favorite meals – hubby is more of a pasta, pizza, lasagna kind of guy, but he still takes a big helping without complaint.

You know it's cold when…

you throw hot water in the air and it instantly vaporizes.

What else do you do when it’s -22 and -38 wind chill?
