• Sep. 21, 2007 - ~Get Thyself to Albertsons!!~

Posted in Frugal Living

I think I just had my best shopping day ever. (Good thing because I have a cold and feel horrible - this made it worthwhile) I just spent $136 on $466 worth of groceries! I saved over $330!! Even the checker commented that he thought it was the best savings he'd ever seen.

First...I made a "mini" purchase to make sure the deals were working. I bought the below and went through the self-check.

I purchased 5 Post Cereals (any kind that are part of the 5/$10 sale) This will take $3 off, giving you the five  boxes for $7. I had two $1 off two coupons, bringing my total to $5. I then requested the free milk coupon (when you buy five boxes of cereal) I thought they would give me a coupon for my next purchase, but they just gave me a free gallon of milk. I then paid my $5 and the Catalina spit out two coupons for $6 off my next purchases. Yup, all the above for $1 profit!! If I lived in town, I'd use the $6 coupons and do the deal over, getting everything totally free. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

The majority of my purchases were the Quaker items on sale. They had granola bars, breakfast bars, oatmeal, granola bites, etc. for 10/$15. They take off $5 for every 10, making them $1 each. I had some coupons for $1 off, making the item free and others for 50 cents off, making the product 50 cents. Post and Quaker cereal is also on sale. My haul took two carts and included quite a bit of meat that was also on sale as well as several non-sale items. So...exactly what did I get for $136?

(3) 4 lb rump roasts

5.5 lbs Hamburger

Pork Ribs

Pork Chops

Lg Tray Chicken Drumsticks

Tide (30 use)

Gallon 1% Milk

Bread

Hamburger Buns

2 tubs Foster Farms deli turkey meat

13 boxes Quaker Instant Oatmal (including Weight Control)

27 boxes Quaker granola bars

4 boxes Quaker granola bites

3 boxes Quaker Muffin bars

3 boxes Quaker Breakfast cookies

5 boxes Honey Bunches of Oats cereal

5 Post shredded wheat cereal

2 liter Diet Pepsi

10 Yoplait yogurts

Quart Juicy Juice Apple Juice

2 Tony's Pouches

Instant Idahoan Potatoes (only cuz they were free)

Doritos

Coffee

Bagels

Oreos (on sale and $1 off with milk purchase - of course, the milk was free - Ha!)

Junior Mints

Gummi Worms

Cream Cheese

2lb block of Cheddar

2 pomegranates

4lbs bananas

iceberg lettuce

green leaf lettuce

bag spinach

2.5 lbs gala apples

2 onions

15 lbs potatoes

2.5 lbs green grapes

2 lbs red grapes

2 lb broccoli

This does not include the items in the "mini trip" mentioned above.

Are you convinced yet? It really IS worth the 30 minutes I spent online and the 30 minutes gathering coupons to save $330!!!  This is all stuff we will use. And I shouldn't have to pay full price before the next great deal when I'll get it all for cheap again. If you can get to the point when you are always buying the bulk of your food at sales prices you'll definitely notice the difference.

That is totally amazing. I can't believe how much you saved and how on earth you figured all of that out! I spent $40 more than you today on groceries - and didn't get nearly as much!

I am so bad with math I'd probably end up spending double. I am not surprised at ALL that you could do this. You are a total math brain! Praise God you are handling TOS...

We don't get these types of coupons or deals here in England!! I wish we did. That is really amazing - well done! Some of that sounds so yummy too, wish I could pop around and sample the finished goods too! :o)

Where online do you find those deals? You should put the link in your sidebar or something for us rookies...

Way to go! I miss our Albertson's chain. They always had the best markdowns on meat and dairy.

Call me slow, but where did you get the coupons, and how did you get extra of the cereal that was 5/$10?
