For those who drop by here today,
I hope you have a lovely Mother’s Day!

You can read my Mother’s Day reflections at
Mama’s Place

I have started a new blog because I’m unsure about the upcoming changes to HSB.
I don’t want to let this one go, but in the meantime you can find me at the above link.

36 Weeks.  It’s the final countdown(reminds me of a song, somewhere in my past!).  This truly has been my fastest pregnancy yet! (Even though for my 4th baby, I didn’t really know for sure that I was pregnant til I was 12 weeks!)

So, I’m at the ‘big & awkward’ feeling stage.  I only measured 32cm at my last check up, but it’s what people would call ‘all baby’ and it’s all out front.  My lower back aches, my hips ache and by the end of the day, my feet ache.  And you can forget about bending over to pick anything up! If I happen to drop something, it stays there until one of the kids comes by and can pick it up for me.

Overall, I cannot complain.  I truly do like being pregnant.  It’s such a special time.  I love every move & kick.  I have started to think about labour to mentally prepare myself.  My last few labours have all been 5 hours or less.  That’s after consistently praying for a short labour.  I usually get nervous and start to dread it.  As I told the nurse at the doctor’s office; I know I can’t have a painless labour, but a short one would be nice!  This time, however, I felt a peace about going into labour and have actually been looking forward to it.

My little Wee One, who is now almost 19 months old, has turned into a ‘little boy’ recently with a new haircut.  I have been especially enjoying his cuteness, knowing that his place as ‘baby’ is going to be usurped soon.  He’s so young that he won’t remember.

We are trying to wrap up most of our ‘school’.  My older children may still have some Math to do and I don’t think we’ll finish our History book.  But that can still be done after the baby is born.
I have 9 meals in the feezer and I hope to get some more made during the next couple of weeks.
There’s a family birthday, a homeschool convention(which unfortunately, I’m probably going to miss) & a sports day all around my due date.  It will be a busy time, but I sooo look forward to holding a teeny, tiny newborn again!

I’ll leave you with something my 3yr old said:

I was folding the newborn laundry and when she saw the size of the sleepers, she said "Is the new baby going to be small?"

The Sad Truth

One of the things I appreciate about our church is it’s library.  My kids love it too!  It has many resources that may not be available at the public library.

Last Sunday when we were in checking out books after church, the librarian commented to me that they only get 1 or 2 kids a week checking out books(besides our 6 of course!).  My kids have even noticed the dates stamped on the inside pockets of the books are all from a few years ago.

Now I know that hasn’t always been the case.  When my oldest(now 12) was a toddler, the library was packed every week after church.  At that time we were checking out The Donut Man(is he still around?) and Steve Green’s scripture songs which she loved.

So, what has happened in the last 10 years(or so) that would leave the library practically empty?

The librarian and I had a discussion about this.  She said that kids don’t read anymore and they’re not read to anymore.  I said we have the internet, video games, and other little hand held devices that light up and make noises to thank for that.  Although there may be other factors too.  Parents are too busy.  Kids are too busy.

I declared to her that it’s not that way in our house!! We read every single day!  We always have a family read-aloud novel on the go and reading is a BIG part of our schooling.

What’s encouraging is that our homeschool support group meets in our church library, and I have mom’s telling me how much they would love a library like ours at their church!    I know there are many out there who still read to their kids.  There is nothing like being cozy on a wet afternoon, my children around me as we are deeply engrossed in some adventure.  I hope it’s something we never lose!

Cross against blue sky with sun

He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.
Do you believe this?’ "

I have heard the birds!
The last few mornings, birds have been chirping outside.  I love that sound! I’m so glad that Spring is here even though we hardly had a Winter this year.  We only had one piddly little snowfall last December.
And now the daffodils are in bloom!
I’m looking forward to warmer days, getting outside if the rain holds off and of course the birth of my baby!
Spring you are welcome!!

I can hardly believe that I’ll have 2 babies when this one comes.  No, I’m not having twins, but my ‘Wee One’ will only be 20 months old.  Even though he thinks he’s a ‘big boy’ and he’s learning new things every day, he’s still little!!
Yesterday, as I pulled in the driveway, I could see his little head, just tall enough to see out of our front window.  He watched the van pull up with a confused look on his face.  Then he saw that it was me through the glass and his face lit up with a big smile! How precious!

Sometimes I wonder if my kids are weird…?
I opened the freezer the other day to get something out for dinner and found this:

What’s interesting about it is, that it’s not just an ice-cream bucket with Lego men frozen in it, but it’s an action scene, frozen in space.  I don’t know if you can tell by the picture, but one of the little boats is sinking and R2D2 has come apart.  This took some thought.

And I always love it when our learning extends to their play.
The other night when they were supposed to be getting ready for bed, they were stuffing their backpacks full of anything heavy they could get their hands on.  Apparently, they were voyageurs, portaging their 180lb packs!

I share this next picture with you because I have realized that it will not be long before I’m looking ‘up’ at my son.

The brown shoe is mine.  The other shoe is his.  He is 11.
For now I will enjoy that he is shorter than me.

As for me, I am at the 30 week mark in my pregnancy.  Only 10 more to go!! This is the fastest pregnancy ever!
Overall, I’m well.  I get those nasty leg cramps, usually first thing in the morning and I often have heartburn at night, but I can’t complain, really.
I recently discovered that my hemoglobin was low and I needed to be on an iron supplement.  I’m amazed at how much better I feel since I started taking it.
So here’s my ever-growing baby bump at 30wks(remind me next time not to wear a horizontally striped shirt, it makes me look, well, wider!):

Happy Spring!
