What do you call those?
Posted in Our Home Schooling Journey
I've been getting audiobooks for the children and I happened upon Peter and the Wolf. Now I'm not sure what to call this. I guess it's an audiobook, but the musical score goes right along with it. It's not a musical perse, but it is more than just the words. Anyway, I want to get more of those. Since I come from a musical background, I appreciate it as part of their education and not just something extra. I do know teh Carnival of the Animals is something similar. In musical terms it's called program music...whatever it is my children are eating it up. They can even play the rhythm of the guns on our little tom-tom! So now I'm scouring the library looking for anymore I can find.

How are you? I have always loved Peter and the Wolf! Have you ever checked out this website?

This week's program is about Johann Strauss Jr. and what they tell about his music during the lessons reminded me of Peter and the Wolf.
Blessings,
Mandi

I'll have to check it out. We've struggled with introducing music, although like you, I was raised in a musical family and believe music to be a valuable part of an education. We've studied a composer per semester, but have definitely had fits and starts, with lots of misses. The oldest needs quiet in order to not be distracted, so music during the school hours is out, and our car rides aren't as extensive with the gas prices being what they are. I have to back up and punt, so this was a timely blog entry for me to read. God bless, Violet.

I came over from the VOM blog. It's nice to 'meet' you! :-)
My boys *love* Peter and the Wolf! :-) In a similar vein, they have also enjoyed the "Classical Kids" cd's, like Beethoven Lives Upstairs, Mr. Bach Comes to Call, etc.
Have a great day!
