Whew...take a deep breath...

Posted in Our Home Schooling Journey

Yes, I am taking a deep breath! Thank You, Jesus!!!! Today He gave me the idea of making a library list beforehand so I can see what books I need to get and when. For some reason that has made the lessons seem less scary! I went through them week by week and saw what was required for each week and I'm thinkin' "That's all?" Some weeks we'll only do that subject one day. WHEW!!! That takes a load of my mind! I guess I was looking everything all at once and not week by week. That's how I work anyway. I usually take one day at a time and go from there. The weekly lessons aren't that bad, but then I have to remember there are other subjects that don't have weekly lessons all planned out. Our art lessons are planned out thanks to Barry Stebbing. I'll be adding in art history lessons and other books from the library on art. Then I have to still do my own lessons for P.E., and Music. It's a challenge, but I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!

Aug. 16, 2007 - I did that too

Posted by Anonymous

on a sticky note at the beginning of each week. I listed all the resources and materials I would need for the week, including papers, maps, scissors, whatever. Then I could grab that list over the weekend and prepare for the whole week on Saturday.

Also I checked to see if it was really necessary. The K lessons are (IMO) too much for a K to do anyway. I pared down what was important for us to complete and I didn't need everything they suggested.

I also had file folders labeled with each day of the week. There I put copies of maps, poems, pictures and other things I needed for that day so it was easy for me to grab and I didn't have to stop to find things.
I am the type that needs more organization to feel prepared and in control of the lesson, otherwise I feel scattered and we don't get as much done. Hope this helps!
