Thoughts on Devotions with Deb – Monday

This morning in devotions, I wrote my prayer to God and I wrote something like, “I want to be more steady.  I don’t want to be moody.  I don’t want my family to wonder which mommy we’re going to get today?”  Then I listened to Devotions with Deb-Monday from the October 2010 Schoolhouse Expo.  And here’s the answer:  Psalm 16:8 “I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is always at my right hand I shall not be moved.”

I cannot put into words how timely this devotion is for me this week.  It was so inpsiring.  I remember thinking when I attended the live talk during the October Expo that I needed to hear this again!  I was distracted while she was talking on the original day and missed some information.  So I am so glad to have the opportunity to listen again.  As I was listening to this 20 minute talk I kept moving the bar back on my screen so I could re-hear something she just said.  Here’s a quote I listened two about six times:

If we are writing a list of everything that we think needs to happen in our life so that things will go better.  That means we’re maintaining our lot.  And God wants to do that.  He maintains our lot. -Deb Weuhler, Devotions with Deb – Monday

I want God to maintiain my lot.  That’s all I want!

If you want to listen along to this talk, you’ll need to have an Expo to Go ticket.  Find out more about that here.   If you already have an Expo to Go, listen along with me to Deb’s devotion this week.  The audio is entitled Devotions with Deb – Monday.  You can see Deb’s speaker page from the October 2010 Expo here.  You can get the handouts for this talk, she entitled “Where is God?”  here.  And you can get a copy of her beautiful powerpoint presentation for “Where is God?” by going to her speaker site and clicking on “Power Point Slides – (fomr Monday’s sesion)” .

What did God reveal to you through Deb’s devotion?  I’d love to read what you learned.  Blog about it on your blog and then link back to it here, or leave me a comment.  I’ll respond to them all!

I love Molly

When I announced on Facebook that we would be listening to the Molly  talk this week, one of our friends, Carol, replied with the following:

I loved that one! It so inspired me! Since then I have purchased some simple stuff from thrift stores & $ Stores to make food presentation prettier – and I’ve started having more company over. God definitely used Molly’s session in my life!

Thoughts on “Company’s Coming!”

I’m writing while listening to Molly Green’s presentation, “Company’s Coming! Friendly, Frugal Hospitality for Real Families.”  In the past I have not done a good job at hospitality, as I thought of hospitality.  Early in our marriage I would invite someone for dinner and then totally stress out about the food and the condition of the house.  I’d make my husband and sons’ lives miserable not allowing them to touch things, eat things, play in the living room, etc…  All of those stresses have relaxed in the past years.  Mostly because I’m just too busy to stress out about the condition of the house or the presentation of the food prior to large visits.

But hospitality is SO much more than large visits.  And I’ve learned that from Molly’s talk.  The handouts for this talk can be found here.  You will LOVE the handouts for this talk.  They are packed with recipes, ideas, and advice.  It’s a great companion to the talk.

Oh, and check out Molly’s page on the Expo website here.  You will find some terrific offers, as well as lots of information about Molly and her products.  And another freebie, too!

So, if hospitality isn’t entertaining a large group in an elaborate manner, what is it?  Listening to Molly’s talk I’m learning that it’s about people.  Any time spent with others unselfishly is hospitality.  And Molly gives many-many ways to spend time with others and open your home to them.

When parents stop to pick up a child who is playing with our boys and we offer them coffee, that’s hospitality.  When we reach out to our elderly neighbor who needs help stacking wood…hospitality.  Offering a cold drink to the man delivering stone to your driveway…hospitality.

As I listened again to Molly’s talk, I get the desire to be creative when having friends and family over for meals.  I’m ready to hit those thrift stores for clever serving ideas.
