Just a note to thank everyone for making this a fantastic homeschooling year. We had a lot of fun spending time with other homeschooling families, and I enjoyed planning our get-togethers! Special thanks to all the parents who helped plan, shared ideas, and brought supplies and snacks when they were needed. Now on to summer break where we can relax and enjoy the summer weather. :)

Our last official event for the year will be a family picnic on May 18. Meet at Frank Starr Park @12pm in Storm Lake for food and fun!
This will be a potluck picnic – bring what you would like. Below is a list of food that we have coming already. Also, Elizabeth is going to do tie-dye with the kids! If you would like to participate in tie-dye, bring a cotton item for each child. I am thinking it does not have to be a t-shirt. As long as the item is cotton, it should tie-dye fine. Socks, tote bags – whatever floats your boat. :) To help defray the cost, we will need to ask you to bring $2 per child to do tie-dye. Also, you may want your kids to wear a big old shirt or art apron in case the dye gets messy!
Here is a list of the food I know of so far:
Elizabeth – beef hot dogs + her oldest son is making a dessert
Amy – chips
Karyn – baked beans
I will have plastic silverware, napkins and plates. Each family should bring their own drinks.
Come and celebrate another successful homeschooling year for all of us! :)

Old Man Winter is snowing on our parade! :(
Even if this snow melts, with all the rain and snow lately it is going to be a soupy, muddy mess at the park. So, we are going to have to cancel homeschool group tomorrow, April 20. I am not sure yet whether or not we will be able to reschedule our clean up at the park day. I will still be handing out seedling trees for Arbor Day, though, whenever they come in (they are not here yet).
For now, we are just going to go with our next meeting, but there is a date and time change below!
April 20 : ****Cancelled due to weather****Earth Day this year is on April 22, so for our April 20 meeting we will do a service project and pick up trash and debris at Chautauqua Park in Storm Lake. You might want your kids to wear some gloves. Also, bring an empty grocery bag or trash bag! After we pick up, there will of course be play time and snacks. April 29 is Arbor Day, so hopefully the trees I ordered from the Arbor Day Foundation will arrive before this meeting – each family that attends (hopefully, enough for one for each child!) will take home a tree for planting.
May 3 : Note that this is a Tuesday, not a Wednesday – Elizabeth has a schedule conflict with her job on Wednesday of that week. Elizabeth has opened up her home for pizza making and games/activities! Since we will be making pizzas, the time is being changed to NOON. Email me for Elizabeth’s address and phone number if you need that information and are interested in attending. It should be a great time for the kids and the parents!
May 18 : All family picnic at Frank Starr Park @ 12pm. Elizabeth Bozonie is organizing this event – she or I will be in touch with you!

Attend a special lesson on Ancient Hieroglyphics on March 16. This is a high interest lesson for children, and they will be taking part in using hieroglyphics to create a wall mural, decipher a hieroglyphic message to find a “treasure”, and learn how to write their names with the Egyptian hieroglyphic alphabet. They will have a fun learning experience and I will enjoy teaching them!
I have reserved the meeting room at the Storm Lake Public Library for March 16 at 2pm. Please let me know over the next week or so if you can make it, that way I can plan for the right amount of supplies and can better focus the lesson for the age range that will be there. Hope to see you there! :)

I have been watching the weather, thinking we may be able to have a park day. However, it looks like it is only supposed to be 25 degrees on Wednesday. I really just wanted to have a play day for the kids, which would give them a chance to get to know each other better, and the parents as well.
So, we will be having a game day at my Mom and Dad’s house (2 pm). If you haven’t been there, there is plenty of room for the kids. The kids can play games (bring your favorite!), and the parents can chat. We have Uno and Farkle and probably some others that we can bring. There is also a pool table there. It would be nice to have a snack and drink for the kids – any volunteers? =)
Also, for the March 16 meeting, the indoor waterpark in Storm Lake will be open all that week during the day. I can call the waterpark and see if we can get a special deal for our group – is that something you would want to do? I know it is expensive there, so I want to check with you all first! Please let me know your opinion.
That should cruise us through to April, when the weather should be better for outdoor fun. I am thinking about an outdoor scavenger hunt or treasure hunt for one of our meetings in April.
Please email slahomeschool (at) gmail.com and let me know your opinions and also if you will be attending on Wednesday. Email as well if you need directions – hope to see you there!

We’ve had a little extended break! =) Mostly due to me, but if you are on the email list you know why.
We’ll be starting our meetings again on Wednesday, March 2. We now meet the first and third Wednesdays of the month. We’ll be meeting in March, April, and May and will have at least one activity over the summer.
The kids and I sure miss seeing all of you! Looking forward to March 2. =)

Come and join us for some fun at our last meeting of 2010!
We’ll be gathering at Storm Lake Bowl (behind Burger King) at 2pm on Wednesday, December 15. I believe the cost is $3 for shoe rental and $2 for each game. Come and bowl just one game or stay for more – it is up to you! :)
Please check this site, or if you are on the email list, check your email before attending Wednesday. I am confirming the time, but the lady at the bowling alley was quite sure 2pm would be fine. She just needed to double-check, and I am calling to be sure. If it needs to be changed, you will see it here and I will send an email out to the list.
Hope to see everyone before the holiday! :)
