City Life To Farm Life
Never has it been so fun to discover new things with your children. To touch a horse and feel their nose is an incredible thing for a city kid. Of course, I have had a few times up on the back of a beautiful horse while chasing the waves of an ocean, but never did I imagine my children would find such joy in meeting one face to face.
Lots of things were learned while away in Colorado. As I have mentioned before, California is a place of immediate satisfaction. Everything is at your finger tips and entertainment is at a high level. I believe you don't even realize that you are apart of that "high" until you sit back at a farm and start to notice all the things you've taken for granted. Well, just as I saw that I have taken creation for granted, my children learned about taking a certain style of church for granted. Yes, just as states rely on entertainment for productivity, churches have also taken on the life of entertainment. In my opinion, so much of the time churches put such a strong focus on creating a good experience for people that Jesus gets lost in the midst.
The Sunday we were in our small town for vacation, we attended a sister church of ours. It was small compared to our church in California. However, the experience value was wonderful. I say "experience" because our visit was so different than what my children are used to. It gave us the opportunity to share about the meaning of worship and listening to God. We were able to give a new perspective to our children with first hand examples. Explaining that worship is an attitude of heart between you and Lord with or without the electric guitar; that reading and studying the Bible is not about entertainment but about learning how to have a personal relationship with God the Father through His son Jesus. To appreciate the large church in our home state or to appreciate the smaller church in another state - regardless - its all about Him. It was a valuable lesson to share with my children - one that I pray they never forget.
