Welcome to My Blog!
Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for!
I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all!
This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here.
Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do!
Blessings!

Friday, May 16, 2008 Most Embarrassing E-Moment?
Posted in Did You Know. . .
I am blushing as I type this. I'm sure you've all had moments that caused that familiar physical response: increased heart rate, blood rushing to the face, and that warm feeling in the moment.
Well, this is probably under the heading of Public Service Announcement/Did You Know. Do with it as you will. It's the real moments in life that I'm sure tickle your funnybone on a Friday, right? Sadly, it's me we're talking about here. *lol*
If you can't laugh at yourself. . .
A little background for you: I recently purchased a dental pick, scaler, and lighted mouth mirror. In truth, two of the tools are for cleaning dogs' teeth, but the mirror was too cool to contribute to their "health care bin" in the basement. I, of course, needed to try it out. With all of the phlegm I've been experiencing in my throat, I wondered if I could actually see it. (Yes, I'm a curious home school mom.)
So, after a few minutes of examination of my own throat, I have the following gems for you:
1. See your doctor regularly. All that "say, 'Ahhhh'" stuff is good practice and beneficial to your throat and muscle tone in that area.
2. When looking at your own throat, maintain a reasonable expectation of the muscle tone, or lack thereof, in your throat. To expect those muscles to do something they don't do every day and hold it for any length of time is a bit too harsh.
3. When your throat and tongue muscles begin to cramp, freeze up, or throb, it's time to end the exploration of that area.
4. Cold water is of benefit, but rest is the key to aiding said cramped muscles. Talking and singing requires the use of the muscles, and you will know which words or lyrics to avoid rather soon after attempting them.
*sigh*
Did you KNOW. . .your throat and tongue muscles are MUSCLES?!
Did you KNOW. . .they work together in saying anything related to "Ahhhhhh"?

Thursday, May 15, 2008 Revelation
Posted in God Things
Our church has a ministry that targets the deeper teaching of the Bible, the kind you might not teach on a "friendly" Sunday morning. I am in complete agreement, actually, with their choice to offer these things once a month at a separate time from the normal services. There's good reason for it.
Anyway, last night the teaching was on the book of Revelation. Friends, this poor man who wrote a very heavy book (in more ways than one) on Revelation was put to the task of encapsulating the teaching in under two hours, allowing for questions at the end. Wow! (Boy, am I glad I don't have to teach these things.) :')
There was so much packed into this survey of the book I couldn't begin to share even the highlights. It was just an immense amount to try to unpack, and I'll be unpacking it for quite some time. I was blessed to go, but I have to share something. Revelation is quite the book, you know! If someone read it, attentively and with good instruction, that individual's life would have to be markedly different!
The one thing my mind kept turning over and over last night and this morning was a point that was mentioned more than once: never underestimate the power of sin.
Never underestimate the power of sin. (I could park on that for some time.)
It's not that sin is more powerful than our God. Our God is absolutely and infinitely more powerful! Clearly, the battle is done and has been won. We are free from sin. Yet, we are free to the degree we will choose flee from it. Those who succumb to it, or those who choose to live in it, will have a very different experience. Sin starts so harmlessly. Where it goes is so ugly, and I think most of us would wonder just how things got so warped, twisted, and evil (in our lives and in the lives of those we know or observe).
I honestly had a terrible time imagining the events of Revelation in the end. There will be millions, I imagine, who will reject the loving God who desires that none should perish. They will love and worship the very one who seeks to kill and destroy them. How very sad.
With this in mind, how must my life be different as I interact with the people around me?

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 When I Grow Up. . .
Posted in Curriculum Things
I should be an editor when I grow up. Few things can drive me absolutely bonkers like the abuse of our national language. Reading through curriculum samples over the last few days has been a constant reminder that so much is being overlooked in publishing. Some of what I've seen seems to indicate that there may be no official standard in our language anymore. How sad. To my knowledge, there really is a right way to communicate in the written form.
What was it that pushed me over the edge to write this entry? You'll love it.
Why would two, to, and too be too tricky to navigate? Should I trust a program targeting Language Arts that will allow such things? They are typos, no doubt. I'm sure of it. I don't have to feel excited about it, though, do I? *sigh*
Perhaps I am a bit of a "stickler" for grammatical things, but it seems only right in educational programs. After all, I chose home schooling to be sure my sons were getting the best. I am annoyed by having to correct simple errors. Sadly, if I miss it, I have a son "going lawyer" on me later. Surely, I'll hear, "But, Mom! It was this way in the ____________ book!" (insert appropriate whiny tone for effect and accuracy.)
*sigh*
I am particular. Perhaps I am too particular. At least I am sure I am not to particular or two particular. I know who I am and what I am. *lol*
If I make a grammatical error, I know I am taking license to do so. My college degree says I know what to do, even if I choose not to do it. I'm fairly certain the ellipses is rarely used in modern text. . .but I know how to use it.
Okay, I will remove myself from my soap box now. I apologize to all my friends who are too kind to read my entries, even when there are two in a day. An entry like this is probably too strongly worded.

Tuesday, May 13, 2008 A Poem For My Daddy
Posted in God Things
This little poem was "unearthed" in my computer files. I've loved this poem for a long time. I hope you are blessed by it.
Daddy...Daddy...
Daddy....Daddy....I have something to show You.
It's not much at all,
A finger paint drawing of my life on the wall.
Here it is....see what I made?
I thought so hard when I picked every shade.
I chose blue...You like that, too?
I chose green...it's so serene.
I chose gold...it's shiny and bold.
As You see, it's all about me.
Can you see what I made?
Do You see it all, too?
Let me tell You all about it...
Then You'll see what I made when I drew without you.
There's a boy and a dog and fishing stream, too.
I'm in the middle, but I forgot to draw You.
Daddy...Daddy...I have something to ask You.
The words seem so small.
Will You draw a picture of my life on the wall?
Here I am...draw what You like!
I'll wait to see just how You see my life!
You choose blue...I like that, too!
You choose green...is this a scene?
You choose brown...a cross near a town!
You choose red...is that how He bled?
Now, I see...it's all about me...and it's not about me...
I see what You made.
Am I seeing it, true?
Please tell me about it...
Then I'll see what You made when You drew about me.
There's a cross and a man, and He's dying for me.
He's in the middle, and in the crowd I see me.
Daddy...Daddy...I have something to tell You.
A few words to say...
When we draw tomorrow, let's draw Your way!
~ Jennifer J.
It's a wee bit clumsy in the parts, but this poem seems to communicate much of my heart and a good deal of my life with Him at times.
Be blessed today, friends!
P.S. Thanks to those of you who voted in the contest. I am thankful and blessed!
