Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

A Child's Devotions

Posted in Boy Things
I got off to a shaky start this morning. My back has been giving me trouble, and I was slow in getting going today. After breakfast we managed to start thinking about our Bible time together, and I was nearly ready to sit down with the boys, but Habanero wanted his own plan. Sometimes when a child asks, you have to think about it and go with their idea.

So, Habanero asked me if he could take his Bible outside to read it. I asked him if he was really going to read it, and he was pretty convincing. We agreed he had two options for location, and he settled on sitting on the platform of the swing set.

He was out there for some time, and then he brought his Bible back in. I asked him what he learned, and he said, "I was thanking God for all He's given us. I thanked Him for the blue sky, the trees, the grass, the ground we walk on, and everything else. God has really given us a lot of stuff."

And, he would be right. I don't know what he read out there, and I guess I'm okay with not knowing. If he developed a conversation with God out there on our little play set platform, then that is fabulous enough!

Oh, and later we had another little moment.

"Mom, C and S were fighting. S was going to attack C. I knew that wasn't right, so I got my Bible and I read to them about Cain and Able," Habanero shared very matter-of-factly.

*sigh*

What exactly does a mom say to that? I'm sure whatever I said can't possibly be the best thing, but it was the best I knew in the moment. I really hope to get this child more and more into the New Testament!

I'm not sure what my neighbors think most days, but I'm sure it qualifies as "interesting" at the very least! I know Habanero has said he wants to preach to his friends, C and S.  Hmmmm. I think I need the wisdom of Solomon for this kind of thing.

I think God often speaks to the hearts of children because they are more open to listen than we, as grown-ups, sometimes are. I love it when the kids share some of those "profound" God-moments. :-)

I am not sure what I would have said in that situation, but I am sure in my heart I would be very pleased! Anytime a child turns to the Word for answers to this life's problems means he is getting it. Well done.

Jen, that is so awesome that he wants to read his Bible!!! You definitely know you are leading him in the right path (with God's help of course) when he wants to do it all on his own and when he knows where to find Bible stories to tell his friends!! Have a great week!!!

Blessings,
Vania
