A New Chapter

Posted by The Schoolhouse Store on December 27, 2010

As the holidays wind to a close it’s time to make plans for the New Year.  We do that in our homes, our personal lives, even our homeschools.  Well, we’re doing that in The Schoolhouse Store as well.

This blog will not be going forward into 2011 with the store.  We have enjoyed bringing it to you.  It has been a lovely way to commicate with you about store specials and new vendors.  But just like you always have to evaluate the best use of your time as a busy homeschool mom, we must do the same with our time in the store.

Keep up with the specials and events at The Old Schoolhouse Store by signing up for the Special Offers e-mail list.  We won’t abuse the privilige of e-mailing you and you get 2 new e-books every month for being part of this e-mail list!

It’s been a pleasure to come into your in-box a few times a week.  Thanks for taking the time to subscribe and read our ramblings.  We pray for blessings and joy for each of you in 2011.

Try a Little International Folk Dancing in Your Home

Posted by The Schoolhouse Store on December 22, 2010

For today’s midweek markdown, I’m going to let the vendor tell you all about it.  But read the whole way down to the bottom and I’ll be back to give you the deals of the discount!

This Series includes my favorite dance (of course) Jewish Dance, and then we travel around the world dancing all the way!
We “visit” and learn the folk dances of Serbia (Toni is adding this one this week), Romania, and Colonial America!
Folk Dancing is the super fun way to put a spring in your step, and a song in your heart!
It is great exercise for those families interested in adding some physical education to their homeschool day!
Highlights of teaching these dances for me was when a Romanian Missionary came to our Homeschool Group to share about this exciting country, and the spiritual needs there.  Our children performed a Romanian Folk Dance for her, that they had learned only a week before!
I was thrilled when she commented that she had “seen this very dance performed in the parks of Romania” when she was there!
A second highlight for me is that our Folk Dance students (all ages) will be able to perform the Virginia Reel at our city’s Historical Park for their Victorian Christmas Event.  The children will dress in period style attire (girls in heirloom dresses and bows in their hair), boys with straw hats, button up shirts, and blue jeans! I can’t wait to have our homeschool group interact with the greater community! What a wonderful homeschool outreach!
However, I think the most fun has been the dancing around my kitchen with my family on Friday nights, blasting Jewish music, and dancing Israel’s Hora! That has been the greatest blessing to me! Just wholesome family fun time!
This has been a great springboard to learning about multiculturalism within our family’s Christian world-view.  Not to mention, we have enjoyed the food we have eaten from the different countries we have studied Apple Strudel and Pumpkin Pie~yum!
Traditional dance guides can be confusing and expensive!  They assume students understand left from right, and dance terminology.  This guide is written in a revolutionary easy way!  It uses colors, for directions, (red for right, blue for left) so even preschoolers can dance with ease!
Also, this dance guide is written in an encouraging manner to be simply “Read Aloud” so even a beginner can TEACH this dance right away! I take them through it Step- By-Step!
Lastly, my family (Wholesome Learning) is available to bring these wonderful dances to them on a dime at our International Folk Dance Camp~ A Family Integrated Camp which is fun for all ages! You provide the location, we come, and bring the fun!
or they they contact me at evonnemandella@yahoo.com
Thank you for your consideration!
