I probably should’ve said this a long time ago. I’m no longer really using this HSB account, and I’ve moved to this blog.

the title (from Keats’ poem, Bright Star) has nothing to do with this post. i just like Keats, okay?

and i love the south. 

so . . . yesterday me and dad were on our way back from work and we had to stop and fill up on gas. for some reason every time we get gas, it falls into my lot to fill ‘er up. i don’t know why. anyway, i went into the store to pay for it, and fell to the temptation of a pizza stick (for those of y’all who know the place, I was at Dodges). so i went up to the counter and was greeted by a "Whut can I do for ya, sugar?"

yeah . . . the cashier was one of those Sawthun (Southern) women, you know, the kind who are in their 40′s or 50′s, have bleached hair and frequent the tanning bed like it’s a great place to be. so, after a momentary moment in which i hesitated to collect my thoughts, i began to say, "pump three and a pizza . . ."

at this point a man walked into the store.  he must’ve been an acquaintance of the cashier’s, for she hailed him loudly and commenced some sort of oration in extreme country vernacular, in which i caught the words ‘divorce’ ‘papers’ and ‘at my home’ (from these clues i deduced that she had divorce papers at her home).
anyway, this burst of words was way too much for my sense of hearing.  for a moment i was speechless from the shock.  
"now, whudja wawnt agin, darlin’?"
"umm . . . " i gave her the debit card, "pump three and a pizza stick, please."
"i’m sorry, whut was that, honey?"
i was feeling quite foolish.  this would be the third time i had to ask for my treat.  i felt like a child, not in the good way.
"pump three and a pizza stick."
"pump three and whut?"
i considered dropping the matter of the pizza stick, but i decided to carry on.
"a p-p-p-pizza stick."
i don’t know why i stuttered.  these things just happen.  
she smiled a cigarette stained smile.  "awwww, yer precious." 
my teeth clenched.  i wanted to retort with an emphatic "madam, I AM NOT!"
but i just smiled and accepted the offered long-coveted pizza stick.
it tasted good.

I was hiding under your porch because I love you.
