Taking the Challenge

His Girl at Walking Along the Road tagged me for an "8 Things" meme, and Annie from My Life as Annie had an "anyone can play" meme not too long back...and since tonight is relax night, I thought these two memes would be fun to do.

First, 8 Things

The Rules:
The rules are simple…Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves. The
rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are
listed. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their
names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know
that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

Since I've done a similar meme before, I thought I'd make this one more "themed".

8 Blogging Blessings from this week

1.  Being awarded the Blogger Reflection Award by Annie

2.  Winning and Receiving this

from Barb at A Chelsea Morning

3.  Learning about this Magazine

(thanks, Eleanor Joyce, for the tip!)

4.  Getting re-connected with a blogging buddy

5. Reading and being blessed by A Flyover Blog, A Dusty Frame, and

    Reluctant Entertainer  (new-to-me-blogs)

6.  Sharing in Laura's (I'm an Organizing Junkie) Menu Plan Mondays this week and each week

7.  Sharing in Annie's (My Life as Annie) Time Travel Tuesdays this week and each week

8.  Enjoying a wonderful beginning to Faith-Lift Fridays

Alternate Careers  From Annie at My Life as Annie

Here's how to play:

If you had the opportunity to do a 1-year internship in a company or field completely unrelated to your current career or specialty, what would be your top 5 choices?

mine are:

  * A writer for a travel magazine (if I could choose my destinations ;)

  * A photographer for a home decor magazine

  * A photographer for a food magazine

  * A photographer for a floral magazine

  * A photographer for a travel magazine

Instead of tagging certain people, I choose Y O U!  Please leave a comment so I can visit and read your

8 Things and/or 5 Alternate Careers.

Jul. 2, 2007 - ~* Blogger Reflection Award *~

Posted in Memes

Oh my!  I am truly honored beyond words!  Annie from My Life as Annie has nominated me for the Blogger Reflection Award.

Here's what Annie said:

"I found Sheryl early on in my blogging. I visited her menu each week and repeatedly told her how cute her blog was... we became bloggy friends and I have been encouraged by her posts and her comments. She is a faith filled lady with a love for her husband and family. Her blog has had a makeover, but it is still cute. You should get to know Sheryl... she is starting a new meme called faith lift fridays. I can't wait to participate."

Annie and I have never met face-to-face and never written more than a few words at a time to each other.  But Annie went right to the soul of who I desire to be in my daily life: faith-filled and loving to my honey, my kids, and all those God allows to cross my path.  I haven't arrived yet, but, thank you Annie for seeing into my heart and for your sweet, encouraging words!

Of course, Annie has already received this award, but she would be the top of my list if she hadn't!  I love her faith, her joy, her love for her family, and her love for others.  She inspires me and encourages me.  And she has awesome menus and recipes each week, to boot! :)

Now, I get the pleasure of passing along this beautiful award:

Here are the rules for passing this award on: The reason for the title is because this award should make you reflect on five bloggers who have been an encouragement, a source of love, impacted you in some way, and have been a Godly example to you. Five Bloggers who when you reflect on them you get a sense of pride and joy... of knowing them and being blessed by them.

1. Copy this post.
2. Reflect on five bloggers and write a least a paragraph about each one.
3. Make sure you link to this post so others can read it and the rules.
4. Go leave your chosen bloggers a comment and let them know they've been given the award.
5. Put the award icon on your site

Here are my five award recipients:

1. Mikki from Under HIS ConstructionThis post has really changed how I read Psalms in particular, and

has really blessed me.  Additionally, I love Mikki's honesty and her upbeat outlook in spite of some health issues she's been facing.  I've appreciated how she's taught herself to sew and has turned her new-found skill into a new cottage business.  I enjoy her sweet comments and her bloggy friendship!

2.  Patricia W. Hunter of Pollywog Creek.  Patricia was , if not literally my first, then one of the five first commentors on my blog and my first bloggy friend.  She has blessed me with her love for the elderly, her servant's heart, her beautiful photography, and her love for her growing family (now that she has married sons, she's been gaining some adorable grandchildren! ;)  Her devotional posts are thoughtful and thought-provoking.  (For a sample, read "taste of leather").

3. Norman and Connie and their two adorable guys at Ward's Sward.  Not only is this blog a family affair, their writing is good!  I've been challenged to think a bit deeper, encouraged to enjoy my family even more, inspired to be creative with what we have, reminded that each day is a gift, and just simply blessed to enjoy a peek into their family's daily doings.

4. Karen Woodward at For Such a Time as Now.  Karen is another one of my first commentors, welcoming me to the bloggy world.  I've enjoyed reading her posts as she's shared her life as a missonary/minister's wife.  From her furloughs home to her return to Romania, to her return back to the USA to stay for awhile, Karen has blessed me with her faith and joy in-the-midst, her love for her family, her persistence in homeschooling while in the middle of constant change and her appreciation of her parents (who also have two wonderful blogs!).

5.  His Girl at My Life in the Kingdom.  She is able to take the dailies of life and turn them into thought-provoking posts and always, in a figure-of-speech kind of way, ends up pointing her finger to God...making you look up.  And that's the way I want to live my life...looking up, because God is I AM and her posts remind me of that.

It is so hard to choose for this...but thank you to all the bloggers I enjoy reading...you have all blessed me, encouraged me, and/or challenged me in one way or another.  ((((HUGS)))) to each of you!

Jun. 27, 2007 - ~* What's On My Ipod Nano *~

I saw this meme the other day, and for the life of me I can't find/remember who did this...so if it's you, please let me know and I'll link back to you.

13 Songs on My Ipod Nano

First of all, as I mentioned yesterday, music is my love language.  And, if you haven't figured it out yet,

I'm totally in love with my honey and a total romantic at heart! :)   Soooo, most of what's on my Ipod Nano is romantic...whether it's lush themes from movies (and I don't have to see the movie to fall in love with the music);romantic instrumentals;  a song who's lyrics are about forever-love; music that expresses God's love to me or my love to Him;  whether it's got a country twang, a rock beat, or the sound of soul, ...99.9% of my music is about love and romance.

And so...here are 13 songs on my Ipod Nano

1. My Funny Valentine Chris Botti

2. You Are Good   Rita Springer

3. So Much in Love   All-4-One

4. Let's Make a Long Story Longer  Michael Bolton

5.  Always & Forever   Heatwave

6.  One Touch   Nicole C Mullen

7. Wonderful Tonight  Michael Buble'

8.  When You Say You Love Me        Josh Groban

9.  Amazed    Lonestar

10.  Summer of '42   City of Prague - Philharmonic  - Reel Love

11. La Vie En Rose  Hallmark/Sommerset Collection - Springtime in Paris

12.  Find Yourself   Brad Paisley

13. Forever More I'll be the One    James Ingram

BONUS:   Just in case you were wondering ;)  (because personally, if I was reading this meme, that would be my next question)   ....   Here are three of the cd's in my car changer, I can't remember what else I have in there...but these are the ones I'm playing most

1.  Mercy Me      Coming Up to Breathe

2.  Switchfoot     Learning to Breathe

3.  Hallmark     The Closer I Get to You

So....what's on your Ipod or in your CD changer?

Appetizer
Fill in the blank:  The best thing about where I live is it's proximity to so many great places: foothills,

gold country,

our capitol, Yosemite,

Bay Area,

Reno/Tahoe, Mendocino coast,

wine country...

Soup
Create a new name for a deodorant (like “Flower Fresh” or “Shower Scent”).

Skunk's Alive  or Pepe le Pu

Seriously, though,  I think men would appreciate one named "New Car"   or "Leather",

don't you??

Salad
What was the last piece of software you installed onto your computer? Printshop22 which I promptly uninstalled as it seemed to totally take over and mess up my computer...I was not a happy camper!

Main Course
If you were to receive a superlative award today beginning with the words ”Most likely to…”, what would the rest of the phrase say?  Most likely to...surprise.   I say that because I hated the internet at first, then my brother talked me into it and now my family laughs at me and calls me the 'net queen.

Also, my family was surprised when we chose to homeschool and even more surprised that we stuck with it, are still doing it, and we love it.

Dessert
What two colors do you like to wear together?black and white,  black and lime,

black and white,

black and red,

beginning to see a pattern here?? ;)  However, my husband loves me in color, so I really have worked on adding color to my closet.  Last fall I wore a lot of pretty browns and reds.  This year I've been adding in blues.  (And with my weight loss, I've been getting rid of a lot, too!)

Jun. 13, 2007 - ~* Quirky Quirks Meme *~

Posted in Memes

Annie did a fun meme and tagged anyone who had quirky policies...well, hand-waving like crazy...here is queen of quirky (wouldn't that be a fun blog name??!!....hmmmm!)

1.  I hate my hands to be dirty and double-hate dirt or gunk of any kind under my fingernails.  I wash my hands so often in the kitchen that Bounty probably pays for their monthly advertising budget on my kitchen usage alone.   Also,  I don't like using dish towels that have been used once already...I can re-use my bath towel, but hate re-using dish towels.  I end up re-washing and using a paper towel...yeah...I agree...a bit of OCD going on...but it's not a fear of germs thing...it's a "feel" thing.  My hands feel dirty and it bugs me. Um, yeah, Purell is a staple in my purse and car.  Waaaayy more info than you ever wanted, huh?

2.  I don't like cabinet doors left open...it's like my bed being unmade...it's something that stares back at me and it  b o t h e r s me!!

3.  I have to have a car available.  I don't like being w/o a car....especially living in the country.

4. I cannot stand peas...the way they pop and squish in your mouth is just awful...and the smell....eeeeeekkk!  And limas and black-eyed peas follow close behind.

5.  Nails on a blackboard don't do me in...but twist a coke bottle on a sandy sidewalk or scrape a shovel on the same sidewalk and I come undone!

I'm sure I have tons more quirks...my kids would probably enjoy aiding me in this list, but unlike our favorite vacations, I didn't request their input ;)
Enough already!

Any quirky quirks you'd like to share??
