• Tuesday, November 28, 2006 - My heart is hurting this morning

I have this stat counter thing on my blog that tells me who has been reading.  I don't really keep up with the "who" because it doesn't give names or anything...more like just the general area of the country the reader is from.

It's neat to check the counter and see on the map that someone from Finland (for example) of all places saw my silly little blog.

The reason I began keeping up was simply for those times that I don't feel like my blog is being used in any way.  When I think no one is reading, I can look and see that 57 people read it yesterday so maybe I should try to write something today...that kind of thing.

This morning I checked to see if anyone had been reading lately since I don't update as much as I should, and my heart just broke.

I found that someone (I don't have anyway of knowing who) found my blog through ask.com...Their question?

What do I do if I suspect my husband is molesting my children?

Remember with me back months ago when I tore apart some articles on that subject written by the Pearl's.

This is a hurting world looking for answers to very hard questions.

My heart is breaking this morning for the Momma who asked that question.

I can only pray that she finds answers to her question in the only Answer we can rely on.

I will pray for this woman that has stumbled onto your blog. I'm sure Jesus was leading her to here so she would get a Christian answer. I'm sorry you had to go through what you did.

Christy and I often have the same reaction when we look at our stats. We get Google and Ask searches that break the heart, too. Things like "How do I make my husband love me" and "What to do if your husband is untrustworthy". One time, we even got one that was something like "My husband won't tell me his internet password" or something similar.

What is even more sad than the problems these poor people are having, and you alluded to this at the end of your post, is that they are seeking answers to these heavy questions by typing the question into an internet search engine!! To think that someone actually sat down at their computer and typed that question into a search engine boggles my mind. And, like you, breaks my heart.

Hi Trish,
I was reading this post and your old one regarding abuse etc. I just wanted to say that I believe we are to always follow the biblical model outlined if we catch a brother in sin-to first go to that brother/sister, then take someone else along with you and if they still don't repent, go to the church. With that, the thing I want to expound on are some comments on the old post where someone (maybe it was you but maybe not, already have forgotten) made it sound like taking a sinning brother or sister before the church was nearly equivalent to a slap on the hand. If that is the case, that person is attending the wrong church. Being brought before the church would very likely lead to jail time in the issue of abuse like molestation because there are laws in place for "officials" to turn in criminals. It's like if you go to your pastor and tell him you murdered someone, sure he will explain repentence and the like, but he can't keep that a secret. There are going to be repercussions with the church and the law. The church shouldn't circumvent what the laws of the land are when it comes to criminal offenses, it is just one step in the process. The only reason I decided to write to you was that I get concerned over Christians wanting to disregard scripture when it comes to serious hot topics, like molestation, and in a Christian home, going to the church *should* be a very big deal. If it's not, again, there is a problem with that church. I didn't see where the Pearls said if the church doesn't do anything, drop it, but I felt like that was how some folks were reading things.

I do want to add that I completely agree that it is excruciatingly painful to be molested and feel that you are either not believed or that it wasn't treated very seriously. God's grace is sufficient however, and from what I've seen the Pearl's seem to do a pretty good job of balancing things out. Not that they are perfect- I don't agree with them on everything, nor am I someone who really knows that much about them. What I am glad for is that they are very clear that keeping abuse a secret is a problem and that included keeping it a secret from the law (at least that is what I gathered from your posts). Their audiences include communities where abuse goes on and on due to it never coming out to anyone, for generations--at least that is my take, and as one who can speak from personal experience as well, I am very glad to see they support putting a family member in jail. I guess I just don't see where they are deviating from Scripture concering this, though I haven't read everything they've written, just what you shared. My interest isn't in defending them either way, I am more interested in all of us trusting God and taking His design for justice as right. As Christians we live by the laws of our church AND the laws of the land. Unbelievers just have the laws of the land to deal with in matters such as this.

Always enjoy your posts, love,

About Me

Welcome and warning...this blog is authored by an imperfect and sometimes impatient Christian mom. If you are here looking for facts and advice about homeschooling, you may be disappointed. I use this blog to sharpen my writing skills and occasionally vent. I hope to make you laugh, cry, think, and praise God for the everyday blessings. Still here? okay, but you've been warned...LOL!
