Learning to enjoy the detours...the blog formerly known as froG academy

Wednesday, January 10, 2007 - What have you resolved to do this year?

I hate to make New Year's resolutions.
For the last 12 years,my resolutions have revolved around weight loss...until two years ago.  I joked that since my reslolutions never came to fruition, I would resolve to gain 20 pounds.

Results?  I gained 30 pounds (I am an overacheiver) and had baby Paige.  She was worth it though, so no worries.

Last New Year's Eve Paige was 4 weeks old and I hadn't slept enough at that point to bother making resolutions.

This year we made resolutions as a family.  Resolutions to read our Bibles and pray together each day...broken on day 1.  Resolutions to eat better...so far so good.  Resolutions to organize our home...still thinking on that one.  Resolutions to read 20 books together this year...we're 1/3 of the way through one of my favorites "Island of the Blue Dolphins".

I guess my only personal resolution for the year is to work on being the woman God intended me to be.

I have wasted enough time worrying about the past.  I can't change the past.

I can't do anything about the mother I had but I can change the mother I am.

I can't erase the things that my marriage has been through, but I can praise God for the things that He has done in the both of us and I can ask Him to put me in places to minister to others in pain.

That's the cry of my heart this year...God use me!

I decided not to set myself any resolutions this year, I thought I would just keep on the track I'm on to be less of me and more of Him. This was until the other morning after a couple of my kids woke up and greeted me with their dirty faces, so my resolution is I will not send my kids to bed with a dirty faces again this year. So far I'm doing well:)
I hope yours go well.

Hey Trish...yep, I am the elliptical queen. LOL, well actually, I do the elliptical about 20 minutes a day in addition to whatever other exercise I am doing. (Unfortunately since the pipe breaking accident my elliptical is shoved to the side and collecting dust, and do I ever miss it!)

As for the weight loss, they knew. I WAS going to surprise them, but I am the WORST at keeping secrets! I beg my husband to let me give him birthday presents early, etc. I just get so excited that I can hardly contain myself. LOL (Like a kid in a candy store I suppose)

You have chosen the best resolution of all. One that, if everyone made, would change the world we live in. God bless.

It always seems like God does something new in us right about the time the new year rolls around. This year He has refreshed our vision for our family again. Thank you Lord!! I saw a great quote the other day attributed to Martin Luther regarding New Year's resolutions. If you have to make one, resolve not to bite your own nose. You actually have a chance of keeping that one!
