(with apologies to Edgar Allen Poe)
Feel the scorching of the heat -
What a world of misery the mercury does mete!
As it rises, rises, rises
Daylight hours we all shun!
Skin exposed soon ionizes
And reports of our demises
Are no great exaggeration!
For it ages, ages, ages
Us in quick-succeeding stages
As it fricassees and flays us from our brains down to our feet!
It's the heat, heat, heat, heat
Heat, heat, heat -
It's the searing, soaring, slashing summer heat!
