Matching techniques

2,1,5,3,9,6,7,4,8

An unusual setting

Jonathan and Michael were walking along a lonely beach. Suddenly they heard a giant wave crash on the beach and the erie sound of a boat settling on the shore. Then far into the distance they saw the most spooky old boat they had ever seen. The sides of the boat had seaweed and barnicles on it.

Nathan had writers block so Bethany took over. Here is her story.

Bethany and James barried their toes deeper into the sand on the sun-soaked beach. Sighing deeply Bethany sipped her lemonade, while James adjusted his sunglasses. Both were clad in bathing suits, anxious to plunge into the frothy ocean waves. The beach was empty except for the two lover's and their matching beach towels. Or so they thought. As James was cleaning some lint off his cheap wal-mart glasses he looked lazily across the horizon. His eyes almost missed the lifeboat floating about 50 yards from the shore. The tide must have brought it here from the nearby marina. James poked Bethany. "Hey, look at that!" James gestured to the lifeboad and rose, dusting the sand off his swim trunks. The two jogged toward the boat, curriousity getting the best of them. Neither one was prepared for the sight their eyes were about to behold.

Lesson 10, Begin your story-- Lesson 11, Nutshells

Posted in Nathan

This story takes place in a big forest with animals of small interests. Like Bob the duck. He is a sloppy duck and his one interest is making his house look just right. Which means a pile of clothes heaped on the floor. Dishes still in the sink. Books in a stack. ( Not a neat stack) Sterance the Bunnies interest is easy. Carrott, he just can't get enough carrots. He sometimes has a nasty temper that gets him into bad situations. Then there is me, Bertram the Bear. IT's hard to describe yourself but I'll do my best. I'm a stocky bear and my interest is most likely to have peace between all the animals of this forest, and tasty food.

I'm sorry to say but Sterance not only loves carrots but he sometimes steals them too. Bob the duck happens to have at least 100 carrots and Sterance doesn't think Bob has enough appreciation for his carrots. Sometimes, just sometimes Sterance steals Bob's carrots. Luckily Bob hasn't noticed that some of his carrots have gone missing...until today.

Dingling, dingling. Sarah's fake gold clock went off. Sarah got out of bed and turned the clock off. She got into her blue calico dress. It was her favorite dress because it matched the blue in her eyes. She looked in the mirror as she brushed her long brown hair. She heard her mom calling her to breakfast. Sarah walked down the stairs. She was excited when she saw her breakfast. Bacon and ham, her favorite. Her mouth started to water. Then her brother James walked in the front door. It startled Sarah and she turned her head to look what was so loud. Sarah, come on your late for school. Oh no Sarah said, I forgot about school. Sarah jumped up, she grabbed her books and ran to the buggy. James got into the buggy too. When Sarah got to school the bell rang and she ran into the school.

Lesson 7--Writing Cameras--Part 2

Posted in Nathan

It rained all week during our camping trip. I could hear every rain drop fall on the tents roof. I was frightened as lightning streaked acrosse the dark cludy sky.

Katie saw a scary sea creature at the aquaruim. "Eek!" cried Katie, as the most ferocious shark she had ever seen swam by the side of the tank of the dark and quiet aquarium.

I walked into the pitch black cave. I examined each side. Then I saw it. A dazzling red chest with gold trim. I held up my lantern to make sure it was the one I was looking for. It was on the far east side of the small, round, cold room. I lifted the lid to the ancient chest. It creeked as I opened it.... to reveal the gold and silver in the chest. I was so glad to finally have it. I heaved a big sigh. I loaded the ancient chest in the back of my truck. As soon as I get home I will sell it in an auction.

It rained all week during our camping trip. There was thunder and lightning. It was very cold too. We huddled in the tent all week. The rain made a big puddle around our tent.

Katie was at the aquarium. She saw a scary shark swim by her. She jumped back from the tank.

I got assigned to find the ancient chest. I could  just imagine seeing the gold shiny coins and blue dazzling jeweled necklaces. The next day I went on my quest. It was exciting going on the quest but dangerous and scary too. When I went outside I jumped up and down again and again because I was anxious to get going. I saw the opening of the big cave in front of me.It looked cold and wet, but I clapped my hands because I was finally there. I went inside and saw something behind the rocks. It was the treasure chest. I found the lost treasure chest of the Ancients! It was an old, ,brown ,rusty chest but when I opened it I found all the jewels and gold I had imagined.

Dead words :like, fun,lots,then,got, get

My bedroom

I walk into my bright blue and green room. I admire my neatly made bed with the blue comforter. I share my room with my sister Bethany. Her bed has a blue and green comforter with three small square pillows and a huge hairy stuffed dog she just got from James after she was in the hospital. AS I sit in the padded green chair next to our green desk I look over and see the bright blue dresser the holds my neatly folded clothes. Ha ha. Above the dresser is a large round mirror that has a sparly green scarf draped over it. Our names are on the wall in block letters painted in blue and green. The are also many posters and pictures on the walls. There is a light tan carpet that I just vacumed that covers the floor. I like my room now but soon when Bethany moves out I will change many things and it will be my own room.

Our living room

I walk into our green and brown living room and can't help to notice how nice and clean it is. The books are all neatly arranged on the bookshelfs. The wood coffee table is straight over the brown throw rug. There is a vase with ivory flowers sitting on the table surrounded with orange candles. On either side of the coffee table are two ivory, soft leather couches with fluffy brown and green striped pillows.. There are big windows with light shining into the room. There is a large ivory scarf draped over the top of the windows. The black pellet stove has a bright fire blazing in it warming up the room. I sigh at how nice it looks as I walk by.

Families of The Dump, Puerto Vallarta

Posted in Families of the dump

I just returned from a trip to Puerto Vallarta. I had the opportunity to spend time with the "Families of the Dump" ministry. Helping to distribute food to those that work at the top of the dump and also to the children and moms at the base. It was an amazing experience. It was heartwrenching and heartwarming at the same time. To see the work that people are doing there and to see the smiles and hear the thanks and gratitude of the people that are being helped. Lives are being changed. I visited the school where children are learning and hopefully will have the chance to break this generational bondage that their families have been in.

Everywhere there is an umbrella there is a home.

They work hard sorting garbage to sell and recycle.

The children line up for food. They are very respectful and orderly.

These are the homes at the base of the dump.

Here Faye is teaching the Ten Commandments to the Children.

I had the opportunity to spend time with one of the girls "helping" her. I think I received the greater blessing from the time we spent together. These children are so sweet. It was quite challenging considering I speak very little Spanish.

I spent some time with Faye and Dennis who have been Missionaries here for about four years. They are such woderful people. They love these families and love serving God here.

I enjoyed my trip to Mexico very much and hope to return again. I only spent two days with the mission. The other time I spent being spoiled and pampered. It takes on a new perpective after spending time with the families of the dump.

Writing workshop assignment 1

Book: Risking the Forbidden Game

Setting: In Morocco, in a Muslim community

Jamal wants to learn more about being a Christian but if he does he would be disowned by his family. He brought a French Soldier into his home and that was illegal.  The Soldier was a deserter and he wanted to help him.

He becomes a Christian.

Writing assignment 2.

I liked Sam in The Lord Of th Rings. He was an understanding and encouraging friend to Frodo. He was insecure about things but he was alway will to try.

I did not like The Dark Lord Sauron in The Lord Of the Rings because all his undead spirit cares about is the lust for more power and to rule over everything.

I liked Odysseus in The Odyssey. He is brave and trustworthy. He is adventurous, smart and cunning. He is loyal to his wife.

I did not like the suitors in The Odyssey because they steal Odysseus stuff and destroy his property. All of them want to marry his wife becuse they think Odysseus is dead.
