Weekly Report
Well, I am back with more news on the home front.
I spent most of my weekend and week battling a bad cold. I had body aches over the weekend. Someone told me that it might be the flu. Maybe I did have a touch of the flu, maybe I did not. The weekend, I started to feel pain around my joints. I went to my older son’s Festival Strings concert. This is his last performance. He ended up getting 8th seat this year. I am glad it is finished. He was in the front row this year. You could see him clearly. He did a fine job. We will do something totally different next year. Just to tell you, he practices for four hours three Tuesdays in February, then the Thursday before the concert. Finally, they have a dress rehearsal on the day of the concert and then they perform.
Now on with the report!
My Eighth Grader:
Math: My older son is finishing Saxon Algebra 1 this week!!!
Reading: He is in Chapter 16 of Out of this Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis. He is in Module 12 of Exploring Creation through Physical Science.
Writing: He stopped at lesson 12 in IEW’s Bible Based Writing. He is in Assignment 4 in the Time4Writing classes. His teacher wants him to use more description in his writing. He gets a high grade on his writing. His mechanics are strong. He knows his grammar very well. However, his composition is weak. He can write sentences, but they are dull. He needs more color to his writing.
Bible: We are doing 40 Days in the Word as a family. Since I was sick, it was a flop.
My Sixth Grader:
Math: He completed learning about graphs in Primary Mathematics this week. He got sick, but we did start a little bit of sum of angles too.
Reading: He read about the Great Depression and Hitler’s Rise to power in Story of the World Volume 4. He is listening to the Bronze Bow.
Writing: He is in lesson 13 in IEW’s SWI-B. He is rewriting his past paragraphs. He is working on identifying sentences in KISS grammar. This program helps a lot with his grammar. I really want to see how well it will help him to understand grammar.
Bible: He completed his AWANA book. Currently, he is working on the gold and silvers. He can get an extra award if he completes them. Unfortunately, the church cancelled the AWANA program this week. We had a light snow that totally clear by evening. Yet, there was nothing on Wednesday.
Extracurricular Activities: I already spoke about my older son’s concert on Saturday. He has missed several basketball games and practices due to the orchestra practice.
My younger son’s travel soccer practices have started. I find this to be awful. The old coach would have had several practices by now. Sorry to compare, but this new coach is mean and nasty. He is not having much practices and expects the boys to do wonders during the games.
Both boys have basketball games this Saturday. My younger son is on a loosing team, but he is enjoying basketball. He has almost made a basket in every game. On the other hand, my older son is on a winning team. He has only made one basket the entire season. His team is very aggressive. They foul the other team in every game. Not fun to watch.
Music: My older son was at the music program. He did piano and violin lessons. He did his two ensemble groups. My younger son stayed home due to illness. I am praying for a healing.
