It's Groundhog Day!
The official results are in and it seems the groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, crawled out this morning and saw his shadow. That's right. Six more weeks of winter coming folks. I say that a bit tongue-in-cheek because we have temperatures in the upper 60's today and in the 70's tomorrow.
Ah, well, I guess the only thing to do is print some fun things for the kids, watch Groundhog Day again, and eat pizza. Yep, that's the official way of celebrating Groundhog Day at my house. Anyway, here are some fun sites I found:
wikipedia.org entry for Groundhog Day
lots of info about the origins of groundhog day including alternate prognosticators
groundhog.org
The official site of the Punxsatawney groundhog club
Be sure to check out the teacher section which has games, activities, lesson plans and even a recipe for groundhog cookies.

Hmm. How about some books?

I hope you find something here you can use. If you don't like these, an internet search will turn up piles of other sites as well. Have fun with it and Happy Groundhog Day! |

I didn't even remember that it was Groundhog Day the next day. :-) I hadn't seen the movie in a few years and really enjoyed watching it again. Sounds like you have a fun tradition.
