Ramblings of the Lindsey Mom
• Aug. 3, 2008 - Sunday
It is Sunday today. I am sitting in a quiet house waiting for the little boy to get home. Hubby doesn't get home until very early tomorrow morning. I am anxious for that too since he's been gone a week. We've had flooding in he cellar again. I am so tired of that. We had the landlord come out and fix the huge crack in our cellar wall two weeks ago but it didn't hold. We had water there yesterday.
We started back to school last Monday and it was a little more difficult than I thought. I had to threaten public school this week because I was so tired of dealing with the procrastination and defiance.
Hunter tends to not want to do school work. We got really lazy last year where he would say he didn't know how to do something and I would help him all the time. I didn't see the difference between not know how to do it and not really wanting to do it. This year however I have seen the difference. I am making him try to do things more on his own instead of me always helping him. I am trying to teach him about studying and writing down notes. It is hard when I didn't have good habits like that growing up either. I'm working on it though.
Taitem is doing well already. She has written her first report but it seems more like a story. I am going to have to work with her on it in order to get her to know that I want a lot of facts instead of a little facts and a bible story. She is a good worker and works right along. Sometimes she is done before everyone else.
Peyton has been a procrastinator too. She "hates" school this year. I can't believe that I heard that out of her mouth. I have stopped her history for now since her history, science, and health are all small books. I figured I would put that at the end of the school year for her so she wouldn't have too much school work. She is only 6 but in the 2nd grade. She is a quick learner when she is willing to learn.
I start a new job tomorrow. I am so excited about this because it is working daycare with one of my friends. I get to bring the kids and just hang out there. We all know that I will be helping out with the babies of course. I am thinking that I may try to convince her to make her daycare a little bigger and keep me on for good because I love this kind of work. I know that she doesn't want to do this forever though. So we'll see. It's worth a shot.
I downloaded that Homeschool bar last night. So far it seems really cool. I love reading blogs in my spare time and in the morning before the kids wake up. I am always looking for new ways to implement learning in our school environment with our kids. I get a lot of ideas from other peoples blogs too.
Well I'm heading to go make some breakfast and get Peyton to finish her math work before the new week starts. Have a good day.

About Me
We are a homeschool family of five. We live in Northern Maine. About 5 minutes from the Canadian border. We live in the country so we see a lot of wildlife. We homeschool our three children who are 10, 8, and 6. We have a Pomapoo named Bella and a Torti cat named Piper. I am looking to share our life as we journey through school days, special events, struggles, and every day happenings.
Welcome along for the ride. It may be bumpy but it works!
