Five Home Ed in Kent

Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - Moving On

I'm moving!

Well, my blog is.

An issue has arisen which means that I am not comfortable using the Homeschoolblogger site anymore.  It is in connection with TOS, and relates to their forthcoming tour of the UK.

I hope that some of you will visit my new blog (http://fivehomeedinkent.blogspot.com/) and bookmark it so that you can continue to follow our travels.  I will still visits my friends here, and read your blogs as I have gained great benefit from them.

Best wishes,

Ann

What might be hard for anyone in the US to understand is that the degree to which the Pearls take their "discipline", the way they teach it, and the use of an actual Rod, is not acceptable in the UK. Non Christian home educators here have been appalled and are calling it child abuse - and reporting it as such/campaigning against it. The Christians are also, in the majority, appalled. Those Christians such as myself who do believe in Christian discipline, do NOT interpret the Bible's commandments in the same way as the Pearls. We too find their methods extreme and unacceptable. On top of all that, it is also the potential for bad publicity that has created such fear. We have fought so very hard in the UK for the right to home educate and be left alone by the authorities when we do so. We suffer tremendously at the hands of some education authorities, and the UK's social services. The UK press would have a field day with this - and home education and Christians would come out very badly - I can just see the headlines. I think the lack of understanding of these matters on the part of TOS has been quite a shock. This is beyond just a matter of doctrine you see. And it is not about allowing people choices. The visit has taken this issue into the public domain here in the UK. If you could read some of the emails there have been, from believers as well as non-believers, you would quickly realise why this is such a big issue here. Hope that helps explain it a little bit more?
