This week seemed to be more about interruptions and special events than school work.  We consumed more fast food this week than I can remember eating in a long time!  Not a lot to say about schoolwork or menus, so I’ll just hit the highlights.

On Monday morning, Luke had an interview for a volunteer position at the local food pantry.  That evening we had snow!  It wasn’t a lot, but it hit right when evening activities were starting.  Bible Study class was cancelled & only a few people showed up for Boy Scouts.

Tuesday was probably our best day of the week for getting things done at home, but I have to admit – we’re falling victim to the February Homeschool Doldrums.

Wednesday was a fun field trip to the Leonardo DaVinci exhibit.  The collection from Italy is touring the U.S. this year.  It includes many displays of his inventions plus some models of blueprints that were found in his notes, but never built.  Kate didn’t have work or classes that morning so she got to go with us!

On Thursday morning, Luke started working at the Crisis Food Center.  He’s scheduled to be there every Thursday morning from 9-11:30.  He needs some community service hours for his Boy Scout Eagle work.  After that, I ‘ll keep track of his hours to include on his high school transcript. On Thursday evening, he had an unusually tough Kajukenbo class (martial arts), so he was worn out by the end of the day.
Kate got her first classroom observation assignment.  She’ll be spending 15 hours in a Kindergarten class at a local Lutheran school.  Her goal is to teach high school, so K isn’t really what she was hoping for, but it’s still exciting.  After those 15 hours, there will be another 50 at one of the public schools.

Now it’s 9:30 on Friday morning & I’m the only one awake so far.  (See ‘February Homeschool Doldrums’ above.)  If we get through Math, Science & History today, I’ll be happy and officially pronounce it “Weekend.”

Laika’s new favorite chew toy – carrots.  She started out with the baby, peeled ones, but now she’s up to 2 full-sized carrots a day sometimes:
