Welcome
• 9-19-2008 - A Special Day
On a lovely Sunday afternoon (Sept. 7th), our church held a Fall Kickoff picnic. There was all kinds of fun to be had. You could choose from a game of volleyball or football. You could swim in the lake or swing at the playground. Or, you could sit at a table under the shade of the tall trees and listen to the band play praise music. It was a very enjoyable time with good food and fellowship.
Toward the end of the picnic, we all gathered together at the lake to watch the baptism of three children. Two of those children were ours, Jacob and Daniel. Along with the pastor, my husband also took part in baptizing the boys.

Share your schooling as a child and how you compare it to what your goals are for your children.

_________________________________________________________
I first heard of the homeschooling when I graduated from highschool. I was fascinated by the idea and was thrilled that my future husband was very agreeable to the thought. I've been blessed to be able to homeschool my children since they were old enough to start school.
The hardest part in the beginning was figuring out each of my children's learning styles. I had to remove the typical thoughts I had about what school should be like and I slowly started making it our own. Before I knew it, they knew how to read and write. That was a very exciting accomplishment to be apart of. Now adays we are working on strengths and weaknesses. We are also in the process of trying to figure out where each childs intrests are, so that we can guide them deeper into those areas.
My biggest issue at this point of our life is organization and getting it all done. I'm slowly starting to realize that it doesn't all need to get done. It's ok if the house isn't perfectly clean or if we didn't get to laundry. It will get done eventually. For now, I'm going to enjoy the blessing of being able to homeschool my boys.
I went to private christian schools as well as public schools as a child. Honestly, I can say that I was a lost child and didn't have the attention in school that I needed. I went to over crowded schools and there wasn't any one on one help in most of my school situations. It was very frustrating for me and often my grades reflected it. I'm so happy that my boys are not in that situation and that with every challenge that comes their way, they are surrounded by the things they need to help them succeed.
We have many goals when it comes to our children, but our most important goal for our children is that they have a real relationship with the Lord. We'd love to see them have great jobs, a wonderful wife, sweet children, a home of their own, happiness, etc., but without God, it's really pointless. Homeschooling offers us so many opportunities to be apart of their walk with the Lord.
My Favorite Verse? I can't pick just one. These three are my favorites.
Lamentations 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning;
Deuteronomy 31:8
The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. great is your faithfulness.
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
And Lastly, I don't have a personal homeschooling photograph to share this time, so I thought I'd share one of my favorite homeschooling graphics instead.
Have a blessed day!
Christa

• 9-6-2008 - Summer '08
We really didn't get out and do a whole lot this Summer. It was HOT and we mostly stayed inside. We did buy an above ground pool, but I didn't get any pictures of the kids playing in it.
Jacob's birthday was just before the summer, so I thought we'd sneak his picture in here.

Here he is about 7 years ago. He sure is growing up.

• 9-6-2008 - We're Back With A Fresh Start
It's been such a long time since I've blogged here! I feel like I've become a stranger to this place. Well, I'm hoping to change that. We are going to get back into the swing of things around here.
But first, I must re-introduce our family.
As you can see from the picture, we have four boys.

Dad is a "techy" guy that does all kinds of "techy" stuff. He is a great dad and husband too.
|
I keep busy with homeschooling and the general day to day tasks of taking care of the family and home.
|
|
Did I mention that we have 24 chickens, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 4 fish? It's beginning to look like a zoo around here! There's even talk about a cow and a goat in the future.
Our Bible Verse For Today
— Psalm 127:1 — Unless the LORD builds the house,
its builders labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the watchmen stand guard in vain.
What can we learn from this?
Families establish homes and watchmen guard cities, but both of these activities are futile unless God is with them. A family without God can never experience the spiritual bond God brings to relationships. A city without God will crumble from evil and corruption on the inside. Don't make the mistake of leaving God out of your life — if you do, all your accomplishments will be futile. Make God your highest priority and let him do the building.
