Knox's Notes

FROM THE PASTOR'S PEN... 11/19/07

This week, in cities, small towns and villages all across America, we celebrate Thanksgiving; the national holiday commemorating the providential beginnings of our nation. In the midst of the celebrations and gatherings, however, we often miss the true spiritual and historical significance behind it all. Those religious separatists who landed on the shores of Cape Cod, and first gave thanks to God in honor of His protection and provision, in the face of innumerable hardships, founded a Christian colony, which would, in time, become the United States of America.

It is of utmost importance to note that, these pilgrims, upon arrival in North America, in November 1620, tired and exhausted from their arduous journey at sea, and though eager to, once again, set foot on solid ground, chose first, to covenant together with each other and Almighty God before permanently disembarking from their ship. The written covenant that they enacted and which was agreed on and signed by the men, as heads of households, was to become known as the Mayflower Compact. This founding document of American history was, first and foremost, a spiritual covenant. Yet it was also a direct civil extension of their church covenant, at Scrooby, England, which was written and took effect in 1606. That act, in itself, was particularly significant in that by its very nature and construction, it formed a literal bridge, connecting the church and state. And, as such, it furnished a model for the later Scottish National Covenant of 1638, in Scotland, as well as the proto-types for our colonial Articles of Confederation and U.S Constitution. For the record, The Mayflower Compact read as follows:

“In the name of God, Amen. We whose names are underwritten, the loyal subjects of our dread sovereign lord, King James, by the grace of God of Great Britain, France, and Ireland King defender of the faith, etc. Having undertaken for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian faith, and honor of our King and country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the Northern parts of Virginia, do by these presents solemnly and mutually in the presence of God and one of another, Covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politic, for our better ordering and preservation and furthering of the ends aforesaid, and by virtue hereof to enact, constitute and frame such just and equal laws, ordinances, acts,  constitutions and offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the general good of the colony, unto which we promise all due submission and obedience. In witness whereof we have hereto subscribed our names at Cape Cod, the 11th of November, in the year of the reign of our sovereign lord, King James, of England, France and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland, the fifty-fourth. Anno Domini, 1620. “

Despite the blatant errors, and calculated lies of historical revisionism, original sources, including the writings of William Bradford, attest to the fact that; our great nation was founded on bedrock Christian principles of morality, in both church and government. Further, no legal separation between these two institutions was ever practiced or intended. Neither, in fact, does the term ”separation of church and state” appear in the U.S. Constitution. The Church must lead the way to proclaim and protect these truths; for, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…” (Ps.33:12).  Happy Thanksgiving!

"O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings an opposition of science, falsely so-called; which some professing, have erred concerning the faith (1 Timothy 6: 20-21 King James).

There is a pseudo-scientific philosophy called evolution being taught in the secular educational institutions of our nation at every level, which masquerades as truth. Lacking any viable evidence to support its warped and profane theories, it is supported by outright deceptions and blatant lies. And though it is the responsibility of both the Christian family and the true church to refute such unscriptural error, little has or is being done to call attention to this foolishness, or to rectify it. So today, this column will address the subject of this pervasive error via the Bible, the final authority on every matter.

Firstly, all serious believers must be cautious when accepting the arbitrary label "science", in regard to an educational discipline or school of thought. Take note, the word "science", occurs only once in the preserved scriptures (we recommend the King James Translation), and is translated from the original Greek word "gnosis", denoting the worldly teaching of the Gnostics, a sect which denied the deity of Jesus and the infallible inspiration of the Holy Scriptures. Further, "science", in the modern sense of the word, is unknown in the scriptures. Notice that, in the above verse, Paul warns Timothy, and his future readers, as well, to avoid listening to, and in effect, tolerating such profane and vain babblings. The blasphemous teaching and God denying evil of the theory of evolution, as promoted by public education in our nation, falls into that category and warning! Therefore, all true believing Christian men, particularly fathers, as heads of households, and church leaders, are obligated to loudly denounce and oppose this error and false philosophy, regardless of the cost. For the spiritual protection of their offspring and future generations, Christian fathers should remove their children from exposure to these faithless and perverse influences, of which the teaching of evolution is merely one.

Like it or not, Christian families, and fathers specifically, are charged by God Himself with the responsibility to protect and educate the children under their care. And as fathers, each of us will surely be held accountable and without excuse, for violation of these scriptural commands. Yes, you read that right, commands, not merely suggestions! That said, in closing, please note Paul's Holy Ghost inspired description of any and all who arrogantly consider themselves wise by the standards of this world's systems, contrary to the scriptures.

"Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were they thankful, but became vain in their imagination, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves wise, they became as fools" (Romans 1: 21 King James).

REFORMATION DAY
On October 31, 1517 Catholic priest, Martin Luther, nailed his 95 Theses to the doors of the church at Wittenburg, Germany. His intention was not to institute radical change, but rather to protest what he saw as serious doctrinal errors and abuses within the church of Rome. Yet, the result of that simple act was to fan flames of reform which would become what we know today as the Great Reformation. Many believers today are oblivious to their reformation roots, having never been educated by their church hierarchy. Likewise, countless seminary students are given little background to familiarize and equip them to teach in regard to this and other related subjects of vital historical importance. Still others reject these vitally important issues as irrelevant, to the times in which we live, in favor of the doctrines and traditions of men. But, regardless of your present degree of understanding, follow along with me as I attempt to shed some light on the matter.

During the period of history, prior to the Reformation, the illegitimate Roman church, led by the popes, brutally ruled an evil empire fueled by their own debased interests, virtually uncontested. Further, their denial to the common man of access to the Holy Scriptures, solidified their power. In light of that fact, many early reformers, Catholic priests themselves, having secretly studied the scriptures, realized that control of the populace was behind the dark and blasphemous tenets of Catholicism. Therefore, Luther, as well as others before and after him, began the much needed task of translating the Word of God into the languages of the common man, in order to free the people from the errors of the papacy. Their rallying cry became "Sola Scriptura" the Scriptures alone, a dangerous position, in light of its illegality. This, however along with 4 other scriptural principles, "Sola Gratia", grace alone,  "Sola Fida," faith alone,  "Sola Christo", Christ alone, and "Soli Deo Gloria" the glory of God alone, became the foundation principles upon which the Reformation would be built and nurtured.

Unfortunately, much of the institutional church of our day, due to ignorance of her spiritual history, have fallen into worldly agendas which are equally contrary to the preserved Word of God; due to the fact that, far too many pastors, having been improperly taught themselves in modern seminaries, are teaching a watered down, human inspired gospel which contains little or no resemblance to that taught by King Jesus. Adding to the dilemma, is the proliferation and acceptance of so called modern Bible versions which pervert the truths handed down by the Living Word Himself and the Holy Spirit, (for accuracy we strongly recommend the King James Translation). For these and many other reasons, the Lord is calling a remnant today, who will hear, to come out from religious Babylon and into the light of the truth. They can even now be seen on the horizen in preparation for battle. A third Reformation is now at the doors to prepare a victorious, holy bride for King Jesus at His return. May your spiritual eyes be opened to your place in this great providential move of God.

Modernism In The Home And Church

On the subject of modernism in the home and church in our day,I have a couple of observations that I'd like to make, for it is truly a slippery slope that we're on.

First of all, we need to admit, we have lost our way,on every front. We do not have to look around us very hard to realize that we are not the men our fathers were. And we're even less the men our
grandfathers were! All because we have not, collectively, as Christian men, resisted the move within the church and society at-large, toward an anti-biblical worldview and philosophy. In short, we have failed to speak up.

Of course, we cannot completely blame the church; For theological astuteness and instruction should rightfully begin at home. Secondly, we cannot blame the society around us, for it is merely the sum total of what we have allowed it to become,
because of our apathy, non-resistance, and lack of input and leadership in the realms of the home, church and state. The word of God is clear, however, and let it be known, that I am
among those who share the blame for too often failing to set a biblical standard for myself and those whom the Lord has placed under
my authority. It's by no means an easy task which we face, when we seek to hold accountable those whom The Lord has given us responsibility for. But, do it we must, if we're to please Him and
win the cultural battle for future generations.
To put it quite bluntly, His standards must become our standards, without compromise or fear of resistance from within our own ranks. Let it be known, that the voices of egalitarianism and feminism within the church and society will oppose us. Those who hold a liberal worldview will likewise come against us with fury, all fueled
by satan and the powers of darkness, from which they eminate. We cannot, as individuals however, act or speak for other men, but we
can each personally, take a stand within our own homes and churches, to return male leadership according to God's original design, to
these realms, which will inevitably impact society, as well.Naturally, we should not expect our zeal to be shared by spineless preachers and teachers who are more interested in numbers, popularity and money, than the explicit word of God. Likewise, if we've failed to be zealous in these areas in the past, the necessary changes which we seek to implement may not be immediately welcomed by our wives and children.

If thats the case in our homes, we must prayfully seek the Lord on how to proceed. But, without a doubt, to proceed, is our only viable option, if we're to make the changes which are so desperately needed. The bottom line is this; as the spiritual leaders of our households, we are to lead in these matters exclusively. Whether we, or anyone else likes it or not. This includes, choosing a scriptural church and church environment which our families will attend, and thus be exposed to. The bottom line is, the decision is our's. It does not belong to our wives or our children, And we must hold firm to our decision once it is made, for their well being and eternity depend on
it.

I realize, this is in many cases no easy task, but it is the first and foremost step we must take in restoring a scriptural worldview and foundation for suceeding generations. By doing so, we, as
christian husbands and fathers can stop the slide toward the deadly effects of modernism, and pave the way to restoration and reformation. Comments to this post are welcomed and encouraged. Let us pray for each other in regard to these ends.

Bro. John

A New Reformation?

There is a growing trend today among serious believers toward returning to the preserved Holy Scriptures as the sole authority for faith and practice. And none too soon, for an abandonment of the scriptures, worldliness and a penchant for entertainment is increasingly invading the sanctuaries and pulpits of our nation, leaving the church powerless against her enemies. We must not be complacent in the face of these trends, which promote a worldview completely contrary to apostolic doctrine and the teachings of Christ the King. It can hardly be denied that a" falling away", has been in progress for some time within many of the old line Christian denominations, and a return to biblical order within their walls, is not soon likely. The result being that many who perceive these serious conditions are fleeing the institutional church in record numbers in search of spiritual sustenance, only to find themselves adrift, with God and His word alone to guide them.

However, there are encouraging signs on the horizon; from among these wandering and hungry sheep, God is raising up in our time a remnant of believers, called by His name, who are willing to suffer ridicule and persecution for the cause of Christ and His Kingdom. And they are fully prepared to face down any enemy natural or supernatural, political or ecclesiastical, as well.  They are armed with the biblical weapons of warfare and the power of the living word, Jesus Himself, who has promised to be with them even unto the end of the world. "Sola Scriptura", the scriptures alone, is their rallying cry. And they are unwilling to negotiate away God's commands to order the foundation, and authority structures of their homes by His standards. Likewise they refuse to delegate the education of their children to government schools, but choose rather to sacrifice their own comfort, personal and financial position and security to" train them up in the way they should go”. They further realize, that despite the attacks by revisionist historians, God is creator and ruler of nations.

If this sounds like you, take heart, do not be discouraged, for the Lord has not left you or yours alone along the path which will take you through the strait gate, (Matt.7: 13-14). There are many more like you whom the Lord in His perfect time, will bring together for His glory. And you're in good company as well.

As I watch the unfolding of events in the contemporary church, I am encouraged, knowing that through the mists of times past, those saints who have gone before us have left a record of victory over circumstances similar to those which we are experiencing today. I am often reminded that in the days of Luther, Calvin Knox, and others, the glorious light of the 16th century reformation was kindled throughout Europe restoring God's word and purposes to the true church, ultimately crushing all those supernatural principalities and even political powers and entities which opposed His providential rule over nations.  And the descendents of those worthy saints, the Scottish Covenanters, and others, involved in what is often referred to as the second reformation, continued to carry the banner of the Cross, through the difficult days of the founding of America and beyond, by obediently passing their faith on to succeeding generations This is what is referred to as multi-generational faithfulness, and it starts with men, as traditional family leaders, who refuse to compromise with the voices of tolerance, egalitarianism and ecumenism around them, regardless of the personal cost. And make no mistake…there will be costs.

The Christian homeschooling community is on the front lines of this great cultural battle, and they are effectively taking it to the church and into the very seat of government at every level by way of the voting booth, to restore our country to it's original foundations as a Christian nation.

Finally, I believe that a careful study of Christian history can give us hope that despite the encroaching darkness around us, God and His people will prevail. So believer, rejoice, for the events which we are witnessing, disturbing as they may appear, at times, will, if we are faithful to persevere, lead us into a New Reformation, for the Glory of God the Father, as we await the return of King Jesus in power and great glory.

Commentary On "CREATED TO BE HIS HELPMEET" by Debi Pearl

The purpose of this commentary, is to give a pastoral endorsement of the recent offering by No Greater Joy Ministries "Created To Be His Help Meet" by Debi Pearl. As a conservative pastor/elder, and ardent believer in the divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, I feel compelled to comment on the urgent necessity for material of this type in our day and time. In fact, my wife, Rebecca, and I were so impressed by the content of this book, as well as the opinions of others who had already read it, that we purchased copies, as Christmas gifts, for our married daughter, and our three daughters-in-law, as well.

I personally find the teaching and advice, including the contributions by Michael Pearl, to be Biblically sound and well grounded, especially knowing they adhere to the King James Bible. I am aware, of course, that there has been some negative PR in relation to the book, and yet, personally, believe what Jesus said when He said "...he who has ears to hear, let him hear." But let me explain what I mean.

First of all, changes within our society over the last several decades, along with the influence of radical feminism in the church, has resulted in a distortion of proper biblical gender roles in both the home and marriage, even amongst believers, and, frankly, many do not wish to hear what the Word has to say in the matter. However, God's standards, like the living Word, are the same " yesterday, today and forever" and we must continually turn to the Scriptures alone for clarity. Much of what I've encountered in regard to criticism of Mrs.Pearl's book, has been the usual diatribe concerning the perceived dangers of the wife's submissive attitude, and the possibility of abuse of authority by husbands'.

Let me say right now that this is, in 99% of cases, a truly mute issue. Our all knowing God was well aware of every possible problem that could arise in regard to a wife's submission and obedience to an imperfect man. Yet, He, nevertheless, established the principle of authority and submission in the marriage relationship for the purpose of order and protection in the home and family. Naturally, of course, if one wishes to circumvent the Lord's express commands, they will create every excuse imaginable to avoid obedience.

The problems and objections which arise against simply following the omnipotent wisdom of God in the matter are the result of human nature, which rebels against the very idea of authority in general, especially in American society!

Historically, in Christian patriarchal societies, wives, mothers, daughters and sisters, have held a unique place of honor and protection. And the same is true today when Biblical instruction is followed without question. As for the possible exceptions which may arise from time to time, the Word also addresses these in various places. And I believe that Michael Pearl also dealt with that and other questions properly and for the most part without rendering advice which would ultimately involve the usurption of authority already granted by the Lord and apostolic doctrine.

This said, the question we must ask ourselves is this: Do we believe in the infallibility of God's inspired Word, regardless of the current practices and opinions of the world around us? Or, are we willing to compromise rather than be labeled different?

Unfortunately, compromise has led the church to the place where she is today. And the blame for the sorry conditions within the Christian home and society may be laid at the doorstep of professing Christian men who have abandoned their God-given mantle as family rulers and replaced it with a weak egalitarianism for fear of criticism, confrontation, and ridicule.

Fortunately, there are signs of a return to true Biblical patriarchy within the homeschool community today, and not a moment too soon! Likewise, God is raising up a remnant in our time which includes ministries which are not afraid to articulate loud and clear His laws and precepts for those who will hear. I believe that Michael and Debi Pearls Ministry, No Greater Joy, is one of those ministries, and that Debi's book "Created to be His Help Meet" can safely be recommended as must reading for those who wish God's best by following His way.

My First Attempt At Blogging

In the middle of the night, it occured to me, like a flash out of the blue, the seriousness of the task to which we've been called, as Christian men. Especially, in the area of the homeschool home. We are to set the stage for the educational endeavors of our children, and encourage our wives as well. Learning should be fun and not put in boxes as it often is in public educational institutions. It should also be a continual search for the truth, particularly, where American History is concerned, for so much has been written of late, which bears little or no resemblence to the original facts. This, of course, is the result of revisionist history, designed to twist reality to suit current norms and trends, or even more sinisterly, to
distort Biblical principles for political and/or financial gain.

Unfortunately, we can not always trust Christian publishers and curriculum providers to present a Biblical worldview consistant with the preserved scriptures. Therefore, we must become treasure hunters, as such, for the purpose of ferreting out the truth, regardless of whether it clashes with popular modern concepts in our society or
even the church. One way we can do that, is to become students ourselves, utilizing the vast array of original works and historical documents available to us on the internet, and also seeking out periodicals and other publications which are truly ultr-conservitive, in more than name only.

For you homeschooling husbands and fathers out there, I recommend the Christian Statesman, a free quarterly magazine of The National Reform
Association. It has been in continuous publication since 1864, and deals primarily with American government and constitutional issues. If you're serious about the future of our nation, for your children and grandchildren, this is a must have.

In addition, we must become more than simply spectators, in the political process of this country, if we are to preserve the
blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity, provided the Lord tarries. Day and night, subtle and not so subtle attacks are
being mounted against our freedoms, including homeschooling, and we must be alert and vigilent. Here in Missouri, our home state, a serious attack against homeschool families was just deflected, and we can be sure that more are on the way, at both the state and federal levels. So, lift up your prayers and petitions before the Lord today,
for if God is for us, who can be against us?

Have a great day, rejoice and be glad in it!

For His Crown and Glory,
-Bro John Knox
