Aug. 20, 2008 - One of "Those" Days
We have NOT had a great day. Caleb and Benjamin both came down with yucky coughs and were up most of the night.....and I do NOT do well with little sleep. Anyway....I ended up having to take Ben to the Dr. (which is a 45 minute drive) and he has croup-and you can't really do too much for that except wait it out....
When we finally arrived home, we all took naps, after which, I realized I never put tonight's dinner in the crock pot this morning. (Spit Pea Soup) Trying to figure out what to make for dinner at 4:30pm doesn't usually turn out well-although.. I have discovered a pretty neat website, where you can type in the ingredients you have on hand and it will give you recipes for them.
Now, it is evening and I'm hoping that everyone will sleep tonight. There is a song playing in my head right now..."Tomorrow's another day, and I'm thirsty anyway...So bring on the rain.." (I think it's country?)
Hope everyone else's day went more smoothly than mine!

Oh Elizabeth, I'm so sorry. Poor Benjamin --poor you!
My mom has some natural stuff she used to use on croup for us --Oil of Cajeput. It's an antibacterial and it's supposed to help clear air passages when inhaled?
I do hope he gets well soon. Dealing with sickness does really complicate and just dampen and depress everything, not least for the poor sick person!

Elizabeth, the way we treat croup in our house is giving some tylenol, then if it's cold out, which it usually is, we bundle up the child, which is usually Sam, then bundle up ourselves, usually me, then sit out on the porch in a chair. Keep their faces uncovered. Read a story or two, or sing. We usually have to sit out for an hour, but then he stops wheezing, and is able to breathe without coughing. By then, he'll ask if he can go to back to bed, because he wants to go back to sleep. Works every time. Also when the kids are getting colds and can't sleep at night, have you tried a triacting medicine. Walmart carries "Triacting Nighttime Cough and Cold". I even use this for myself, if I have a cough and can't sleep at night from it. Knocks them out so they can get some rest. My doctor always says that sleeping is when they grow and get better. Hope this helps. Hope everyone is doing better, too!
