What We Plan To Use In the 22-23 School Year

I am slowly planning for the next school year.  Little by little.  It is hard for me to get my head wrapped around my boys all being in high school this upcoming year!  My 12th grader has most of his credits in so his load will be a little light.  Last year went mostly well and I am taking some cues from that as to curriculum choices for this year. There are changes however that I feel fit the ever changing needs of my sons and our family.  Above is the Biology that the twins will use for 9th grade.  It is from Master Books.  I really like the looks of it though I have never used their materials before.  It appears easy to implement but strong on substance.  I still have to complete getting some of the lab materials together though.

The twins will also be doing geography with Notgrass World Geography.  I plan to use the Bible study that is included for our Bible class but will probably not use all the literature that is suggested at this time due to what is included in our language arts.  I don’t want to overburden at this time although we may choose to add some later.  We have used Notgrass for a few high school classes before and thought that would be a good choice for the year.

As a compliment to our geography study I thought this would be a good fit for our English/Language Arts needs.  This has been recommended to me for years but this will be our first time using any of the Learning Language Arts Through Literature series.  Since all 3 boys need an English credit and it is usable for grades 9-12, I thought it would work well for our needs.

Math has never been our strong point here.  This Math Essentials: Filling in the Gaps is what we have chosen to go with for our 12th grader.  His daily work through the years has been o.k. but his testing shows some gaps and so I talked with our umbrella school about using this to help get him on firmer ground before graduation.   I had never heard of this curriculum or this company but since I have it in hand I think it will be just what is needed.  The twins will be using Teaching Texbooks Pre-Algebra.  Last school year they did work on Pre-Algebra so I think they will work well through the most of this.  I do think there is enough new material that it will be a great help to them as well.

I think this Art of Argument will be a fun elective for all 3 boys.

Our 12th grader needs an additional elective credit and we are going to give this a try.  I saw the author at the homeschool convention and I had met her a few years ago when she taught my oldest.  Anyway, I think this could be an interesting class for him.

My planning tools!  I’m trying the Day by Day planner from the Well Planned Day and the Student Record and Planner from Not Consumed.

That is most of our chosen materials for the time being although I could add, edit, or alter that list at any time.  That is our right as a home educating family.  Also to be added will be our co-op classes.  Those are not registered for yet so I don’t know what the boys will choose.  I do know that as of right now I will be teaching a Geography class for 5th – 8th grades,  an Intro to US Constitution class for grades 6-12, and helping with another class which will visit local businesses.

Have a great day!

  1. This was fun to read while I’m finalizing my own boys’ high school plans! Thank you for sharing. I am going to check out a couple of your suggestions. I had the opportunity to review that very Learning Language Arts Through Literature curriculum you plan to use. I couldn’t put the anthology down!
