Rolling through 2023

Well, here we are again!  I’ve had this post in the queue for a bit and had the pictures uploaded. I just hadn’t written anything.  I got distracted by tinkering with my template.  🙂  I wanted to share a few things we had been doing with our class about Appalachia at our homeschool co-op as well as a few other things.

We have talked about a variety of things in our class and covered the history of the area, our patterns of speech, folktales,  music, games, quilts, made fried pies, and much more.  During the last class, they got into groups and made up skits.  I think my favorite was the group that made an Appalachian version of David and Goliath.  It was great!

On January 25, we celebrated Burns night.  I made a Scottish meat pie, I can’t remember what it was called right now, but it was very good.  We also made shortcake.  Both recipes were delicious!  Of course, we also had to read a few Robert Burns poems.  It was a good evening.

On Pi Day (March 14), I was in the middle of the standardized testing week with our umbrella school.  I decided to make a French Meat Pie for the occasion.  It happens to be a favorite of a couple of my boys, so that was a hit.
