Considering important aspects of education, we are educators with purpose, recognizing that education is a lifelong endeavor.
Concepts/Definitions of Education:
RAE Definition:
The definition of education provided by the RAE system outlines other types of education, such as special education and physical education. It also encompasses the process of teaching and learning concepts of courtesy and urbanity. In this definition, “special education” and “early childhood education” are adaptations of the concept that align with particular needs and stages. It offers a more encyclopedic approach.
Webster’s Definition:
Education comprises a whole series of instructions and disciplines that seek to enlighten the understanding, correct the temperament, form the manners and habits of youth, and make them fit and useful in their near future.
It emphasizes education as an integral process that guides understanding, corrects temperament, and shapes the customs and habits of children and young people. It highlights the importance of Biblical education, in addition to academic education, which is the responsibility of parents and guardians and where we typically tend to fail. It focuses on education as a holistic process.
Education includes:
- A Philosophy
- A Curriculum
- A Methodology
What is currently happening with education?
Lack of a Christian philosophy of government.
Only produces internal spiritual regeneration.
Does not transform economic and governmental relationships in the home.
Does not transform local communities.
Civil government and the economy fail.
There is no complete expression of God’s government internally and externally.
Why and for what purpose do we educate?
To restore this nation to its initial purposes.
To propagate the Gospel for individual liberty.
To propagate the Gospel for civil liberty.
What should be the purpose of education?
To discern the operations of government:
Who or what is controlling
Who or what is restricting
Who or what is directing
Who or what is regulating
Internally, who is governing: the heart, or the head?
Externally, who is governing in social and civil activities.
