Some people are hesitant to buy our plants right now because it has been known to frost in May in our area. Our official last frost date was mid-April, but I usually refuse to plant anything outside before May 1 because I’ve lost many vegetables in the past due to an unexpected frost. This year, I went ahead and planted radishes a little earlier than May 1 just to test the waters. I am so glad I did. My kids tasted our first fruits and said that they tasted amazing. That means, to the market they will go. Looking forward to providing our local community with locally grown radishes this year. I am trying to succession plant them so we have them on hand throughout the season.

I need to try radishes. I think that is one on list of foods we haven’t tried yet. I’ll have to look to see if I have any recipes that call for them.

I only just started baking radishes last year (how did I not know about this before!). I roast them in the oven or wrapped in foil on the barbeque, usually with some other vegetables. We never ate too much of them in the past when we only had them raw in salads, but now I’m looking forward to lots in my garden!!
Definitely try roasting them if you haven’t yet, Kristen – so surprisingly deliciously!

I’ll put radishes on my shopping list. Will your kids eat them?
Kristen
Maybe. We tried some other root veggies as ‘fries’ and they were not a hit at all. But maybe roasting is the way to go for them.
Steph
Yes, my boys eat them! They really don’t have that ‘spicy’ radish taste when they’re roasted. So, I’ve only mixed them with other vegetables and they get eaten up with all the rest of the vegetables. I’ll admit my youngest one (12) hasn’t been super impressed with them, but he is still not a big fan of vegetables overall. He still eats them – mostly.
Heather
We eat them in stir fry. 🙂

These look sooo good. Congratulations on coaxing these out a little earlier than usual!

My husband loves radishes; I. . .do not. 🙂
