Those willing hands\u2014they\u2019re still to-night\u2014
\nThe life has from them fled;
\nThey\u2019re folded from the longing sight,
\nSo cold and pale and dead.
\nThe busy veins have idle grown,
\nLike a long famished rill,
\nThat once in such an eager tone
\nCalled soft from hill to hill.<\/p>\n

Dear hands, I\u2019ve felt their pressure oft,
\nIn a sad time gone by;
\nThey moved about the years as soft
\nAs clouds move through the sky.
\nThey screened the rainstorm from my heart,
\nAnd let the moonlight in,
\nAnd showed, while shadows fell athwart,
\nTracks where the sun had been.<\/p>\n

They were such willing, willing hands,
\nThey stilled the mournful tear,
\nUnwound the pattern of God\u2019s plans,
\nAnd made his problems clear.
\nThey did not reach to high-grown bowers,
\nWhere rarest blossoms bloom;
\nBut culled the blessed, purer flowers,
\nAnd bore them to the tomb.<\/p>\n

Poor hands\u2014they are so still and white,
\nThe rose that shared their rest
\nIs shrinking from the long, dark night,
\nAnd falling on her breast.
\nThe wreath is wilted on the mound
\nWhere long the sunshine stands,
\nBut angels have the sleeper found,
\nAnd clasped those willing hands.<\/p>\n
