We made it to another Friday, friends! Let’s see what God has for us today in His word. \ud83d\udcd6\ud83c\udf3b\u2615<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We finish 2 Thessalonians, reading in Chapter 3 today. “The Lord of peace himself give you peace always, by all means”–I need that! We also finish Psalm 1031-17 as our scripture memory practice, adding verse 18 on Monday. Our scripture writing passage for this Friday on the topic of Flourishing is Ephesians 3:17-19-part of Paul’s prayer for the church at Ephesus. Let’s be “rooted and grounded in love” and “filled with all the fulness of God”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He Has Overcome the World” is our topic for the reading from Streams in the Desert–the onslaughts we experience, especially after spiritual victories, are a sign of the Holy Spirit’s seal upon us. The adversary recognizes our alliance. “Crowns are cast in crucibles”–that’s a big thought worth some extra thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tozer discusses how to “Demonstrate Your Faith”–head knowledge and heart knowledge are two very different things. I’ve heard it said that there is a distance of 12 inches between Heaven and Hell–the 12 inches between the head and the heart. Make sure not to “learn doctrine for doctrine’s sake”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spurgeon writes about how “God’s Enemies Shall Bow” and alludes to the plagues that tormented the Egyptians while the Israelites remained unscathed. Completely safe, and finally delivered at the Red Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our prayer scripture this morning is Psalm 100:3,4 “it is he that hath made us and now we ourselves…we are his people…the sheep of his pasture”. That provides excellent perspective for this new year. We finish today by following this theme, considering a hymn text by Horatius Bonar, known as the finest hymn writer in all of Scotland– “I Was a Wandering Sheep”. A precious new hymn text to me.
