Happy Tuesday of Christmas week! Here is today’s podcast. 📖🌻☕
Our Bible reading schedule has us looking at Galatians 5 today. Paul is trying to encourage the church at Galatia to release their grip on the Law and embrace the gospel’s message of grace. He introduces this new idea (the indwelling of the Holy Spirit was still a relatively new thing as we understand it in the early church) of walking in the Spirit. How would you define what that looks like?
Our scripture writing passage continues in Luke 1 with verses 51-56, and we continue working on Psalm 103:1-13 this week as our scripture memory portion. How have you seen God’s fatherly mercy and pity toward you recently?
In Streams in the Desert, we read about “The Path To Blessing” with an excellent poem at the end. “I know that we two shall safe enter port, Jesus and I.” Every hard path has a blessing with it. Tozer writes about “Getting God in Focus”–we must “lift the mind to behold the Lamb of God”.
Spurgeon in Faith’s Checkbook has “From Anger to Love” as its topic. He casts our sins into the depths of the sea. “His love is according to His nature–His anger is only according to His office”–that was a big thought for me to contemplate this morning.
Our prayer scripture is John 1:29 today…”behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world”. This is the whole reason for Christmas to be celebrated at all.
Today’s Christmas hymn is “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The mood and theme of these words are so applicable in our culture today. “The wrong shall fail, the right prevail…”
We conclude with another portion of “Gift of Gifts” from The Valley of Vision: “when I cannot rise to him he draws near on wings of grace to raise me to himself”.
