Let’s begin our first week of 2022 together! 📖🌻☕
We read in Philippians 2 (familiar territory if you’ve been with me for several months…we did some memorizing in this chapter) , according to our schedule reading through the New Testament in a Year. Much discussion on joy in this brief letter from Paul to the church at Philippi.
Memory work is Psalm 103:1-15 this week. We are using the “Flourish” list for our scripture writing from The Ruffled Mango this month, and today’s passage is Psalm 23:1-4 (God has us focusing on this Psalm several times this week…so we should pay attention, seeing He is choosing to repeat it!). 🐑🐑🐑
Keeping with the shepherding theme, Streams in the Desert speaks of “Gentle Leading” — one of the beautiful things about the incarnation of the Messiah is that He knows what this path feels like, what our experience as pilgrims is really like. Tozer writes about “Christ’s Precedence”–how deep is our loyalty and love for Christ? “When we take up the cross, we become expendable”…that’s worth thinking about.
Faith’s Checkbook by Spurgeon has as its topic “Rest on a Promise”. All the promises of God are “yea and amen” (2 Cor. 1:20)…He keeps every one, without exception.
We finish by using Psalm 4:7 as our scripture prayer from our new list at His Mercy Is New (these new resources will be posted below). God can put gladness in our hearts, even when our hearts are faint. A wonderful thing to pray for. Finally, we look at “As With Gladness, Men of Old” as our hymn text (MWF this week). W. Chatterton Dix is the author, a devout businessman, who also wrote “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say”. This text is a perfect bridge between Christmas and New Year. We’ll have excerpts from The Valley Vision on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Thanks for joining me!
