Happy Tuesday, everyone! 📖🌻☕
Today we finish the book of James, reading in Chapter 5. For our “Her Story/His Glory” scripture writing passage, we continue looking at the life of Deborah in Judges 4:8-10. Our scripture memory portion for this week is the beginning of the Beatitudes, Matthew 5:3-4.
In Streams in the Desert, we are encouraged to “Be Sure of His Promises”–“There is hardly any position more utterly beautiful, strong, or safe, than to put the finger upon some promise of the Divine word, and claim it. There need be no anguish, or struggle, or wrestling; we simply present the check and ask for cash, produce the promise, and claim its fulfillment; nor can there be any doubt as to the issue.” I love that!
Tozer writes about “The Impossible Dream” this morning–“The hope of the individual is the new birth and the acceptance of the teachings of Christ as a way of life. The hope of the race is that Christ shall come again to earth. Even so, Lord, come quickly.” There will never be unity, racial or otherwise, without every one of us coming to Christ to be unified with Him first.
Spurgeon, in Faith’s Checkbook, reminds us of “Our Substance Blessed”, and we use the verse from this portion for our prayer time as well as the inspiration for our hymn text, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” (with some interesting backstory about the writer).
