Here we are, together again in the Quiet Time Corner! We have chapter 9 as our Proverbs reading today, and we continue reading through Psalm 22 together, recognizing some familiar scriptures that were fulfilled in the life of Christ, the Messiah. We write Psalm 101:1-4 and I share a little tip on how I used one of the verses with our kids. And, we continue memorizing Proverbs 2:1-5 together this week.
In Days of Heaven on Earth, we consider what it looks like to be light-bearers, reflectors, candlesticks, lamps–“We are to be giving light all the time wherever we are, at home, or in the social circle, or in our place in the church. We should feel always we may never have another opportunity for it, and so we should always be burning and shining for Him.”
Chambers in My Utmost for His Highest wants us to look at what it is to be “real”…genuine and sincere and honest with ourselves before God–“A pauper does not ask out of any reason other than the completely hopeless and painful condition of his poverty. He is not ashamed to beg— blessed are the paupers in spirit (see Matthew 5:3).”
We end by looking at a passage in MacLaren’s Expositions regarding the last words of Peter, and in Hymn 1 from Hymns and Meditations, we see the tempering influence of the Holy Spirit at work as we grow in grace:
I ask Thee for a thoughtful love,
Through constant watching wise,
To meet the glad with joyful smiles,
And to wipe the weeping eyes;
And a heart at leisure from itself,
To soothe and sympathize.
Through constant watching wise,
To meet the glad with joyful smiles,
And to wipe the weeping eyes;
And a heart at leisure from itself,
To soothe and sympathize.
See you tomorrow, to finish out this week, Lord willing!
